Technical Clutch release bearing Stilo Abarth Selespeed

Together with a friend who has the same car as me, we sent the letter to the management of Valeo, let's see what happens and hope for the best!

Did you ever get an answer to your letter ?, or even an acknowledgement ?

Assuming that Valeo are still a major supplier for FIAT, then maybe some complaint to FIAT about the lack of response from Valeo, perhaps assisted and supported by other FIAT Owners Clubs, might evoke a reaction ?

Which from the spiel implies that it's the same cylinder for both applications, but with a different material sealing ring for the two variants ?. I strongly suspect that Valeo do not make sealing rings, and that they bought them in from a specialist seal manufacturer.

So, is it that simple that the correct seal needs to be identified and fitted, and then the problem is solved ?

Yes, it’s the solution.
I am in the process of contacting a hydraulic seal manufacturer to make it for me, in HNBR Quality.

I send the photo and the dimension and i come back to this post 👍.

OK, so have you found the right gasket?
yes, I take the seal which is in the CSC for the manual version of the stilo abarth, it is exactly the same as the selespeed, except the composition of the seal. The company that manufactures the seal told me that it was OK for them, no problem making this type of seal. They contact me the middle of next week to tell me the price, knowing that they have to make a 3D plan on the computer to create the joint.. I hope not to get too expensive..

My car is at a mechanics know changing the clutch and the double mass flywheel, I'm keeping the slave as is... (115 000km) .. hopping it last ...

I may be interested in buying it .. because I have a manual slave spare ...

Not sure what you are saying because the problem is only for selespeed not manual. Didn't know that manual abarths had the double mass flywheel, do they ?.

I was not clear enought, I have a selespeed.

I have a spare manual slave that I converted to selespeed by taking a selespeed sensor to it but i found out this joint material issue so I decided to keep the old slave while it last ...

In the future, if my selespeed slave fail, maybe (if the car is still running ..) I could use this joint to restore the clutch function !

And yes, at least the abarth selespeed have a dual mass flywheel !, I was able to get one on ebay.it arround 200e a while ago ...

please can you tell us the dimensions of the gasket, internal and external diameter, thicknesses, etc., thank you

hello guys, I have good news, I received the famous seals, and they are mounted on csc other than valeo, because the design is different between other brands and valeo, but the purpose is there same and the csc of other brands are therefore less expensive than the Valeo brand, so everything is beneficial. I was able to repair my stilo which had been broken for 3 months because of a leaking csc. Now it works perfectly. I'm giving you the photos of the seals, but for the dimensions on the other hand, it's complicated, because the seal manufacturer made a 3D plan to be able to manufacture it. I only have dimensions that I measured with my caliper, much less precise than with the manufacturer.

On the face of it £25 (+ costs) to fix a broken Selespeed, seems a bargain.
Of course, but if you only buy one seal, it costs you more than €120. The more you buy, the cheaper it is.
So for me, today, it cost me the price of a manual csc (~100€) + 250€ of seals, so a total of 350€.

Which brand of csc with the selespeed sensor are you using with your new seals?

For the sensor, you have to get the one you have on your csc , and you have to make a thread to be able to screw it, nothing complicated, there is already the location.

All in all well done, and a good engineered fix. I note the 'green' materiel which I guess is the same as that used in Aircon O rings etc in place of standard black rubber ones.

At the end of the day you have a working car and some spares to sell if you wanted, all for a price probably less than that which a garage would charge for just taking the gearbox out and putting it back in without doing any more.

Noting that an original Selespeed CSC would be expected to do 'n' years and 'x' 000's of miles, I do hope that yours will do the same. It would be interesting for you to report back after a time to confirm the life of the part.

Congrats again (y)
