If you are living a life in danger every day and somebody pushes a door open and invites you to go through it to a better life, then you would probably go through that door and take the chance. Who could blame you?
But, eventually the point will be reached when that door has to be shut again simply (if nothing else) to allow time for people to be assessed, communities time to adjust, otherwise there will be economic collapse in Western Europe, and then quite possible another war as a result.
However, in opening the doors and extending the hand of freedom, we have to set certain ground rules, otherwise the aggressive side of Islam will see the west for what it is - a soft touch, and we will live to regret that.
A few weeks ago my daughter and her boyfriend were sat in the same area in Paris, and sat outside in a pavement bar and had a wonderful time.
How would I think right now if there blameless activity had resulted in them being cut down at the start of their lives by a brain-washed, sadistic petty criminal - turned religious zealot I do not know and I hope I never have to find out.
But, if I found out that the group responsible had entered Europe as refugees and given the hand of friendship it would feel even worse than if it was "home-grown" socially inadequate nut jobs. I don't know if that is a logical feeling or not.
