I've got a P reg Cinquecento, I'm having some trouble with the audio. After some work was done to the car my old unit doesn't seem to show any signs of life whatsoever. The battery went the car wasn't driven for 6 weeks, I think this may have had an affect too!

I just want to fit a new CD stereo unit and would like to know the best way of going about it? I'd prefer to try and fit something myself rather than using halfords all my life, as i've had mates use them and they're pretty rubbish.

Thanks in advance

Before you do anything you really need to check for power to your old unit or at least to the iso connector (if still in place), otherwise you'll be replacing one duff unit with another! So, check the fuses, check for power.

Given the iso connectors, it should just be a simple matter of using a pair of removal keys to pull the old unit out (there is a pin on each side of the head unit, left and right, which need to be retracted). It can be done using screwdrivers.

If the iso connectors are there, there's no way Halfords can screw it up: it really is a no brainer. And if your mates are so smart, why not ask them to do it?

i had friend bring a sound system brought round to me cos it was making funny noises and halfords had fitted that at cost with the system costing ALOT also and i was rather shocked. bare wires, sub and amp placed in the boot, and wires simply ran through the front of the car. then again see a women comin they take em for all they can like garages.

Bagpipe cd?

halfords had fitted that at cost
So they didn't charge for fitting then?

So I'm guessing your friend didn't own a sub/amp to wire them into at that point in time?

I'd rather have my wires running through the car than over the roof!

...erm, any ladies want to take this point up?

Ok - first check fuse box - HU fuse is the same as Horn and hazards IIRC.
Also most HU's have a fuse on the back panel and one internally - once you've checked the fusebox fuse, check the one on teh back of the HU - if both of these are fine then the internal one may well have gone - and if that's the case, I'm afraid it's totally fubar'ed...

This is of course assuming that all the connectors for power etc are plugged in solidly - Hope this helps
