This gives Fiat dealerships in the US to sell Alfas, and the few Fiats Americans might like. And Chrysler might get the advanced head technology Fiat is soon introducing. Synergy. But ultimately; kill the crap Chrysler cars, build good ones, keep Jeep, and smarten up the Fiat range. Synergy...

Keep Jeep ?

And give it fiat engines ?

Hmmmmmmmm a cherokee with a 900cc twin, I must admit I am struggling to imagine one moving your averaged supersized 42 stone yank :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:,

this is purely to introduce alfa and some fiats like the 500 into the US. both companies will also gain a few other trimmings but its the alfa and 500 thats the main turkey.

great move by fiat i say

LOL you got it wrong on the other thread and you've got it wrong here. From what I can see Fiat are not paying anything for the share in Chrysler. This is pretty much a deal with no risk for Fiat.

Just remember this is a company which will be backed almost to the death by the US government. Chrysler would not have gone down even if Fiat didn't do this deal. You were so wrong when you said a merger with Peugeot made sense and you're so wrong when you present this deal in a negative light.

I have presented nothing in a negative light, but quoted verbatim, or are you incapable of understanding that

How was I wrong to state that Fiat were looking for a partner, and that it was the right thing to do to preserve its future. I am sure Fiat would have looked at more than one partner and as with much in business you say you are speaking to one party to interest another. Irrespective of the final partner outcome, Peugeot was muted by more than one source which I quoted from.

As stated Fiat are paying for the retooling costs at Chrysler to build Fiat group cars in return for there Chrysler shares or did you not read that as well?

No one said it would not prove to be a future success, but at first a Fiat Chrslyer joint venture doesn't readily come to mind. :)

Like i said elsewhere it might be some kind of revolution Americans will have to eat less and excersize more to get into Fiat 500 that will hopefully zipping around the USA....LOL

Not if you don't think about the HUUUUGE market in the US for more economy driven cars which is what Fiat does and what Fiat does well and why the downturn isn't hurting them as much as other marques.

Nothing negative eh? What about this?
Wow Fiat buy 35% of Chrysler a company that makes even less cars than Fiat do and have a portfolio of cars that are very poor.
Sounds negative to me.

Yes they have to pay for tooling up the production line but how many people live in the US? How much marketshare do they potentially get?

Just remember that engine is modular.

2.7l V6, 3.6L V8 with the option of turbo or non-turbo in both cases I'm sure even the 1.8L 4 cylinder turbo would be a viable engine for the Cherokee.

Fiat are'nt stupid, they probaly already know what they are going/want to gain. look at what they got from GM, another American company and it was nothing to do with getting back into the American market :).

Re: Fiat buys 35% of Chrysler.

Fiat left the US market back in the 80s. The Strada/Ritmo and the 124 Spider and I think the 850 Spider were the last ones sold there. They left for two reasons. First they weren't selling all that well in a huge market where they were mostly unknown. Second, the quality of the cars rather left something to be desired. Same fate as the French cars of that era.

Re: Fiat buys 35% of Chrysler.

What really :eek:scares:eek: me about this deal is that 35% of a pile of **** is just a smaller pile of ****...

I don't know how popular the New 500 will be in the USA. It's not like a lot of people there have fond memories of the earlier version.

And for over here, they need a bit more than 75 HP on hand in the diesel versions.

I suspect the Grande Punto is probably the more ideal car for the US. I don't think people in the US really go ga-ga for supermini's anyway
