cheap virus protection

cheap virus protection

That one just likes playing hide and seek in your registry :ROFLMAO:

I dont see why peopel dont download free versions of AVG or Avast. or even Microsoft Security Essentionals and go for stupid ones like AntivirusSoft.com or even Freeantvivirus.com :nutter:

:ROFLMAO: And it's far too restrictive on what you can open lol, which to a normal user baffles them!

It's weird, people tend to search around looking for the best then go for www.thisisgreatvirus.com :ROFLMAO:.

I've been using variations of Windows since 3.11 and never actually had a live virus running in memory.

I love linux but it's far from a 'polished' desktop OS, for the the most part it's buggy as f***. For servers it's great, I got 720days uptime on a hylafax server I setup moooooons ago :slayer:

I had 3 years from a SuSE desktop box once.

Oddly, I think KDE is slowly loosing the plot -- in trying to build in "enhancements" it's getting less well tested and buggier. Back in the day, pre- XP, it was way better than anything Windows could offer (and you still got multiple desktops). I think I'm going to have to go over to Gnome.

They wouldn't be able to get on with it though.

Can't speak for your users, but there are at least 2 UK based companies who sell boxen with Linux pre-installed, both have been around for 5 plus years, so there must be a market.

I'm not at all careful of where I go on the Web -- and I run a P2P client pretty much 24/7 (there's so much interesting stuff out there). I suspect my mate has particular problems with his Windows install because (apart from running without AV unless I insist on putting one on) he's forever grabbing music files from the Net (rather than P2P) and insists on using Chrome or IE.

My biggest issue at the moment is with this site, which often locks up Iceweasel (Debian build of Firefox).

There is a market but for a normal average home user they're happy enough with Windows tbh.

Speaking of people with no AV, a mate came round to mine the other night, as he turned it on his TalkTalk AV came up, been out of date for a year due to no subscription. TT off, MSE on, full scan but nothing there, even ESET online scanner couldn't find anything.

im sorry, but even Linux and OS X can get viruses

Gotta be one HELL of a programmer though....

Windows is rubbish, its a fact, I'd love Appple everything but, i don't have Bill Gates money to buy all Apple, so Windows it is....

To be fair, if you're smart enough you won't get a virus / malicious software. I have a friend who refuses to have any and is just very careful about what sites he views, emails he opens etc. No virus in 6 years, thats pretty good going.

Not really it's actually as easy if not easier than Windows nowadays... The problem is there isn't enough target market for people to bother. Also it's easier to get the initial infection on a Windows PC because as a general rule Mac users are law abiding users and purchase software legitimately. Illegal software downloads & Porn are where a vast majority of infections come from.

Windows isn't ****. It's the programs you is that are **** (not you personally)

And it depends on your machine. Put it this way, Windows and Linux can appear with pretty much ANY combination of parts, RAM, Storage, CPU, GPU. It's pretty much unlimited with possibilities.

Apple on the other hand is pretty limited.

That in my opinion shows the power of Windows.

Plus my PC is tri-booting. I have the best of all words ;)

Asus Intel i3 3.3gHz with 4gb ram, 590gb Storage, and a Asus Nvidea GT450 GPU. Runs Windows7, Apple OSX Lion and Ubuntu 12.04 without fault.

It's not what you have, it's how you use it ;)
