Do Windows users post much else than the shortcomings of their OS? Arc's recent epistle is a classic...............

Really, the only advice I can give to a Windows user is "you're starting in the wrong place!".
:ROFLMAO:

Ok, you have issues with Windows users, that is nice for you - personally, I am bored of it :)

PS Have I ever posted about the shortcomings of it? No! It does exactly what I want it to do, no quibbles.

Oh and yes, I actually run a remote server running Linux which I access via PuTTY and using VNC into KDE - and your point is?

Still, you know best eh (y)

OS X for sure. It's a rip off of a decent OS. Find me a live Linux virus.

The main reason for Windows for been infamous with Viruses is due to the fact it is the most widespread of the OS systems so it makes more "Sense" to create a malware for the OS with the bigger base of users.

A majority of Linux systems now have a Anti-Virus program on the and AVG retail a package especially for Linux. I believe Unbuntu Hardy came with one preinstalled.

As for Linux viruses? Not many still exist, mainly due to the fact it has a small user base.

But BLISS was one, which hacked into non user exe files. BadBunny is another that still does the rounds, a pearl based virus.

But a lot of generic Trojan and worm viruses will effect all platforms. no one is 100% safe...

Point Proved :p

I use W7, OS X and Unbutu 12.04 LTS (the newest one). W7 is good for gaming and general pratting around, OSX is good for Media and Design. and Unbuntu is good just for its speed and internet on the laptop. All OS' have there downfalls, none of them really stand out IMO

I use Windows 7 and have no problem with it at all, and my customers love it!

I think if I started installing Linux or Ubuntu for them they may well kill me..

In 15 years of using Linux, I've yet to encounter a virus. Trojan and Worms are not, strictly speaking, viruses, but, again, I've yet to bump into one. I pop round to my mates, and find 10 + chunks of malware since I last scanned his drive...........

I guess its upto what you do and download. I agree the Trojans/Worms arent "technically" viruses but are general under that title, dispite been Malware

They are out there, so cant really say they dont exist.

Ive used Apple OS for the last 8years and never had a virus for it. And ive used Windows for the last 15years and only had 1 Malware. Just because i havent had them doesnt mean they arent out there.

There's only one reason I still use Windows over Linux, and it's a big one for me - games. If I could just install and play it'd be great, but having to 'trick' it into thinking it's running Windows and even then not getting the full benefit is a deal breaker for me.

Edit: I've also ran Windows without virus protection (other than the built in) for at least the last 3 years and had 0 virus/trojan issues 'cos I'm wise enough to avoid the sorts of places that'll infect my machine. Sort of like choosing an expensive escort, rather than a cheap hooker ... :p

Without their consent, I'd not blame them. But you could offer it as a free (or cut price, assuming you're charging the Windows tax) option.

They wouldn't be able to get on with it though.

all the windows problems i have seem to be user related

(y) Majority are, I've got one at the side of me now that the user couldn't install their wifi dongle.

Like Russ above it's more dependent on the user and what they browse/download.

:yeahthat:

been reading into it, and for what you get, Windows is actually one of the safer OS' to use against Viruses, along with Linux. Updates are relatively quick. Plus there are plenty of free and paid AV programs. although some of the freeware versions are malware in themselves

Strangely OS X is the worst. Viruses on OS X can offect lay hidden for long periods. OS X can also be a carrier. And in the case of Dual Boot Mac's the windows side can be infected and cause issuses with the Mac OS.

Plus there arent really many AV's for OS X, I can see 4, and Apple and most OS X websites recommending searching manually :bang: The primary way of solving a virus is from an Update from Apple
