Cheap place to stay in Edinburgh

I am looking for a cheap place to stay in Edinburgh for me and my girlfriend during the fringe festival. As close to the city centre as possible! Any recommendations please? As cheap and as chearful as possible

the city is packed during the festival
jam packed
people move out and rent their houses
why are you coming?
are you driving?

we stayed at a travelodge about 10minutes walk from Princess Street. we got 2 rooms for 4 people over 3 days for £29 per person per night. No car parking. all on street. street behind the hotel had plenty of space. go 3 cars together. £6 for 24hrs

Haha, but after just checking the hotel on the website it come out as £95! pp/n :bang:

Not sure if will be driving or train. might try and get train tickets in advance

what are you coming up for though?
looking outside the city might work out better but you need to key in travel

Were coming up to watch shows! When we were up there last year and I drove, parking cost a fortune! But its definatly a possibility but would have to know somewhere I could definatly park and how much it would be

Staying in "Embra" during the fringe Every burger will tell you, no such thing as a cheap place.

Your only hope is if you could persuade/bribe a burger on here to put you up.

why not try somewhere in fife like kirkcaldy? trains to edinburgh every hour and a lot cheaper than £400 for 4 nights especially if you get a b&b! cheap day return is under a tenner iirc

Also I am looking at places in relation to Princes Street, is that the best place to be looking from?

Edinburgh is a small city with a very good bus service
dont worry about city centre

What time do they run to? And if I did want to check if they were in walking distance anyway, is that the best place to be looking from?

there are some night buses(might want to contact them for an idea on extra festival services)
theres also Android/iphone apps to track the buses

you see the edinburgh tag in the centre?
then look down to prestonfield/craigmiller
thats a 15 minute bus journey
going the other way to Leith
thats a 10 minute bus journey

you can see the city bypass loopin the city
you can look within that area
its all about time vs convenience

Last time we stayed in Edinburgh was at The Old Waverley Hotel - great location and pretty good price at the time, doubt it would be available now though for that weekend.

And the bus service was spot on - got off the plane, onto a double decker bus, which basically dropped us off right near the hotel near the train station

I highly recommend the Best Western. It's worth the extra money to upgrade to a "club" room .

I'm on first name terms with some of the staff there lol. But as said you're going to find it very hard to get a place to stay. Need to book WAAAAY in advance when there's anything 'special' going on.

found a place in Linlithgow thats going to cost £168 for 2 nights. thats for 2 people in total. so essentially, £42 per person per night.

but i've decided to be a man and go camping. saves finding a hotel

Iv found a few places at around £80 a night for a double, which are either in walking distance or quick bus ride so just deciding which one now.

Ouch camping is a bit extreme. Make sure you lock your valuables in the car and keep your keys on you!

It is Edinburgh after all!

Just be careful. If you may have been in the city recently the tram works are still there and causing more havoc as usual.
