Personally, spend the minimum you can get away with. As with all tech, improvements are being made - albeit slowly.
The Mini 0803 is due for final release soon and there are decent dual cam setups just around the corner.
Just bear in mind that the front cam on the F70 is only 720p, so quality isn't always going to be great.

No it doesn't, they give you 10% off of their price - nothing to say it means they'll be the cheapest.

Same as how only some companies give discount for Pass Plus etc.

I know that which is why I added the bit that you didn't quote.


I guess that if your cam fails to record an incident, the company might wish to examine the cam to see if it or the card is faulty OR you just never bother turning it on because you don't want your own footage to convict you!


It might even be that these companies will only offer discounts for 'approved' cams (possibly made by a select few companies that might offer an incentive to the insurer for getting people to buy their cams?).

Maybe the way to go might be for insurance companies to offer 'rewards' or 'incentives' to anyone who comes forward with footage of an incident (rather than offer a discount for every cam)?


Let's face it, even if they gave you (for example) a year's free insurance, they'd be quids in if that footage proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that you were not at fault & the other guy's insurance had to cough for the lot.
In the case of my last prang, my repair bill would've been around the £2k mark - which my insurer didn't have to pay since my footage proved my innocence. Without it, the claim was going 50/50
 
Fff-rreee...nope...don't think that the insurance companies know that one...or certainly not the true meaning of it!

In the case of my last prang, even though I wasn't at fault, our stories obviously conflicted. Without witnesses, insurance would've gone 50/50 - so my insurance, I guess, would've had to cough up £2k.
Providing a freebie on my following year would 'cost' them around the £200 mark - heck, even if they offered a very heavy discount (half price?) they'd still be saving.

Even if they had coughed up £2k, your insurance would have increased as a result, none fault (then depending upon the company) it wouldn't, or won't increase as much as an at fault. This in itself is a reward.

If insurance companies start going out free insurance then someone has got to cover this cost, and it'll be other customers. Hardly fair if you turn the table and its you who's having to pay an extra £10-£15 a year for this reason.

If I was at fault then, yes, I expect my premiums to rise. But my premiums still went up - even though I was completely absolved of all blame.
I was told that premiums were going up across the board as the industry had to cover for their losses with all the uninsured drivers. Strange that only my premiums went up (within the family) - even going with other insurers, the prang still had to be declared, even though it was non-fault. Almost as if I'm being penalised for being on the road at the same time as all the loonies? I got the impression that I was being penalised for making them do some work on my behalf - even though I had already paid them to do this when I originally bought the fully comp - in fact, they didn't even have to do anything more than make a couple of phone calls.

As for covering the cost of giving out freebies - out of the millions they make, a few hundred is hardly noticeable. I mean, the number of dashcam users making a claim would surely be less than 1% (and, I also added, even if they gave a hefty discount...)
 
Ok, got my mini 0801 dash cam today. Fitted and switched on. Works ok and wired it in round the headlining.

Only problem is it keeps coming up with memory error. The micro sd card is a class 4, do you think that's the problem?

Would a class 6 or 10 be better?

First thoughts - £49 for a camera that only records in 720p?
Pics of this one beside others in the range (the 402 for example) & the 101 looks twice the size.
Personally, I'd go for the G1W as far as price is concerned or Mobius for stealth.
