OK Kurst don't listen to any Apple people, it may sound like a childish thing for me to say but I've had enough of that age old Apple do things better bullsh*t Can't even make a proper MP3 player for crying out loud

What you need for art work is a decent processor, graphics card and large hard drive.

Say no to Intel Cellery (Celleron)

You could build a computer to suit you, From the following prices you could have:

£42 VGA - Geforce ( nVidia ) - 7300 - PCI-Express 256Ram
£90 Intel Processors - Pentium® 4 LGA 775 (600 Series) @ 2x2.66GHz
£40 Motherboards - Pentium® 4 (Intel 915) - S775
£58 1GB Corsair Value Select - DDR RAM @ 400mhz
£50 280GB Hard Drive (confirm spec)
£35 Sound Blaster Audigy
£5 Mouse
£10 Keyboard
£145 Flat Screen TFT 19" monitor
£20 Optical Drive
£10 Cables

All together £455, Feel free to add Any Hardware I've missed Anything I've missed :)

*Price Guide Taken From www.scan.co.uk Same place where I bought all my components to build my very own Moomachine!

CCL computers and AMD processors... Don't have the time right now to put a machine spec together but GhostWKD is running a machine I specced and as far as I know he's happy with it. Well he certainly didn't pour paint stripper over my bonet at Stanford :D

Mesh are good, i've had no problems with customer service and i've had to send my laptop off 3 times... wait... i retract my "mesh are good" statement...

building one really is the best idea, it's easier than you think, and tbh if it's graphics your doing, all your going to need is a good processor anything over 2.6 steer clear of intel celerons... Find an AMD if possible, high ram over 1Gb (as this is only mid spec nowadays), a decent (ish) graphics card (any mentioned on the back of "farcry" ) and a moderate harddrive, 100GB should be sufficiant.

you may be able to spend the money youve saved on important things... like ebay...:slayer:

I find iTunes very quirky at times but it does what I want better than WinAmp does...

Now, the one real advantage for graphics that Apple has is that you can get the monitor calibration almost bang on by eyeball very easily, I never got windows close to right until I borrowed a monitor calibrator from work. If you're doing graphics work of any type imo, calibration is a fairly big consideration.

Nicely specced Trance :)

I too used Scan, in conjuction with dabs, to build my PC about 2 or 3 years ago - since then, it has grown somewhat, my latest addition being an X850XT PE AGP card, purchased off ebay for the sum of £165 [£300 retail] - it is awesome (y)

I am with Trance all the way, especially the age old mac vs PC argument. I like the specs he's put together there. Might wanna add a case though. But they can be bought dirt cheap these days.

Does anyone know why Apple create cool handles on the Mac's? It's to hold with one hand and open the wheelie bin with the other cos they are crap, when they break they break end of, no bits to replace just junk it, hence why PC's are more popular.

this isnt 1992, over 80% of the population has internet access :p

I haven't

Will be getting it in the autumn though! I'm going travelling for three months over the summer. As broadband normally requires a twelve month minimum contract its pointless me getting it now and paying for three months I won't be able to use.

I WILL join the twenty first centuruy soon! :p
