Just had a mechanic look at my 1.6 stilo and said Brakes need replacing

How much could I expect to pay to have the front and rear brake disks & pads replaced.

I am worried that I will be ripped off.

How good are some of the cheaper set that I see on ebay.
What brand is a good value set, I am on a bit of a budget.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thank you !

Got quote for 411.00 to change disks and pads front and rear.

Is this too much ?

your discs should easily last 4-5 sets of pads (have replaced mine 3 times now.. discs are hardly worn @36k miles..) you should have a look @ wear yourself.. 400 don't sound too bad for discs & pads fitted.. it's one of the simpler jobs and has been covered ALOT.. you might wish to use search link above

And there's me thinking you like to make a profit..;)

makes me no profit, I get paid the same wage but I dont like seeing customers getting ripped off.

decent set of discs/pads for front & rear will cost you £100-120 on ebay or at factors, even with 2 hours labour at £40/hr thats just over £200 + vat etc. Obviously genuine parts will be much more.

Just got this car a week ago.

Not knowing to much about these thing, Perhaps this car was abused?

Thats the one thing I have always liked about you and that is your complete honesty..(y)

It's extremely common practice to try to sell you news discs, when you don't really need them, as it's easy money for the garage.

As others have said, best to check yourself for how bad the wear is but failing that at least get a 2nd opinion from another outlet (many will let you see how worn the discs are before they start)

Seeing a different garage on tuesday and also will get Kwikfit to have a look.

will post their opinions next week.

Maybe I'm lucky !

Thanks for all the replies !

Not alot of profit in discs especially aftermarket ones, its the parts dept that bump up the price not the workshop so supply your own and save a wad:)

I was thinking more of the profit they make from the extra labour charge of fitting the discs.

Personally, I don't see a problem from getting a quote from KwikFit as no one is forcing you to accept it - and in any case that 10 year warranty they give could be fun when they start squealing :D

I bought rear discs and pads on ebay for my Stilo Mw month or so ago and paid £37.59 with postage.
Quality is great, pads are doing ok too, will buy from this seller next for my fronts too i expect.
