Technical Car won't select any gears???

Think it's a dodgy brake switch, because I took it out, reset it and it works fine again, could it be a duff switch or is that not an option with a brand-new fiat part? (i've ordered a new one anyway!)

Now i'm pretty sure its not the brake switch as i've changed it twice! so, what else could it be bar taking it to Fiat? could I be setting the switch wrong, there is another electrical plug up there with the white one for the switch that isn't plugged into anything, could this have came out of somewhere? Not the greatest picture in the world, but its a black plug on the same loom as the white one.
