Hi after about 10 mins in neutral my car switches ignition off and start stop
Not available come up on dash I then have to restart car any idea why it’s doing this please

Issues with incorrect S/S operation are commonly reported here.

Yours is just the right age for the battery to have worn sufficiently to cause the S/S function to misbehave; improperly sensing clutch &/or gear lever position sensors could be an issue also.

Sounds to me like the system isn't activating when it should, then picks up a spurious signal, activates, then immediately disconnects completely because the battery charge isn't adequate.

One easy test is to see what happens if you turn S/S off completely - I believe you can do this via the menu system in a 2017 car (on the early ones, you have to disable it every time you turn the engine on).

If S/S doesn't cut in when it should, try gently jiggling the gear level around the neutral position. This may cause it to sense neutral and engage S/S. If it disengages after less than about three minutes, chances are you need to replace the battery if you want to continue to use this functionality.

Hi is it still 10 mins or so stationary? when it stops do all the ignition lights come on? also does it just stop as though you turned the key or in another manner like shudder and stall?
One question does it make any difference if you press the accelerator now and again? or is it time ? is the SS on or off?

HI it’s stationary with the SS on no lights come on and the engine just cuts out with the warning sign start stop unavailable. Using the accelerator makes no difference . Many thanks .

Is it possible that after a prolonged idle(ing) period that with the SS on it switches the engine OFF? What happens if once off if you press the clutch or accelerator not touching the key. Once it stops what lights are on the dash without moving the key?

No lights come up just start stop unavailable and depressing the clutch and accelerater does nothing I have to switch the car back on .

If the S/S is operating, and has recently restarted the engine, it will stop it again if there's no input from the driver and it'll then require a 'manual' restart - but that's supposed to occur after about three minutes, not ten.

I've never had it happen but I'm guessing the "Start/Stop Unavailable" message might appear in that case..

So is this a normal safety feature .

According to the handbook the above function is only intended to reduce emissions. That said, it's effect would be marginal at best - much like the whole S/S system.

I do know my car restarts after about three minutes if S/S has stopped it and I do nothing, but I've never let it idle for longer than that so it hasn't had to shut the engine down completely after a further three minutes as the handbook describes.

I don't know whether this is relevant to your own issue.
