Tell you what, if he gets one and its full of junk, I'll remote tidy it.

Can you do that :chin: if not I will beam you to here and beam you back

I'd say no to Dell, when I am working, I have to arrange repairs for these machines, it's more frequent than people think.

Why do companies use them? Cos they cheap (laptop dvd drives in desktops) and can supply huge quantaties etc etc

Hmmmm that price is competetive.

OK then Liam it would appear that you are some way connected to the PC industry so what would be your choice if you were going to buy a new set up :)

I am not a Dell fan either - but each to their own; a lot of businesses do use them, and if I had to choose between Packard Bell and Dell, I suppose Dell would get it

The Mesh one seems ok

http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=112747 and is comparable to the ones selected above [although looks like integrated graphics, so puts me off straight away]

When I come to upgrade my machine, I know I won't be buying a ready-made one.

To be honest, Phil, all you are going to be doing is surfing the net, and maybe doing emails, pictures, yes?

Therefore, you don't need an all-singing, all dancing machine - and any of those above for £500 will suit you. You can't really go wrong at that price.

That does look quite good for the money and has a 19" screen to ..we will get Nathan to brows over the Mesh list when he gets in from work later thanks to all that replied I am very grateful for the effort you put in on our behalf (y)

Where I looked, you got similar specs but no monitor, PC world have the buying power to set the price quite low.

I would be happy with the machine from PC world but in future I'l upgade my bits cos I have good peripherals but I am planning a HTPC too.

We are now have a short list but a PC made by compaq has now come into the runnind its at Currys its the 2019 and has some thing called Vista premium upgrade its selling for £489 have you guys any opinions on these PCs are they good or bad

According to the website, this is the specs for the 2019:

AMD Athlon 64 Mobile Processor 3500
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center
1GB DDR RAM
160GB Hard Disk Drive
Dual Layer DVD Re-Writer Drive
256MB nVidia Geforce 6150 Graphics
9-In-1 Media Card Reader
7 USB Connections
4 PCI Slots
Vista Premium Upgrade Included
19" Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor

Looks a bit lame compared to the other packages - then again, I am not an AMD fan  The Mesh one includes the upgrade to VISTA free of charge as well.

PC World only sell obsolete machines. They can't keep up with the industry.

If you want a proper computer, buy an Acer from their website.

Dell and Compaq are rubbish. As are most other makes if you really want a serious computer and not just a home play thing.

We did today all installed now god its quick I useually sit here and sing to my self waiting for the next page now its come and gone before I realise it happened very quiet as well old one was noisiy (y)

If you want a decent PC, you have to build it yourself from your own specced parts. Makes me laugh when I tell people I've spent £900 building a PC and I get "you are silly, you could have bought 3 from PC world for that much"
