Engine warning light on. Below is a reply from the Fiat Forum
I intend to reject the car has anyone had success with this?

12 WEEKS ON STILL NOT RESOLVED and now just to add salt to the wound I was told today there is no fault, its the way I drive. So there you have it, no problem then, just drive with the warning light on then. I think not. I am currently awaiting a reply from the garage management and Fiat uk. I feel I have been very patient up till now and cant belive after numerous visits and messing about fitting new parts contacting Fiat tech support the light is still on so therefore its our fault. I am now contacting the motoring press. Hope my finance company will now sort this out.

Errrrr, is it possible that you are using the clutch wrong?

Quite possibly- I'd say 99% of the S/S 'faults' are people's driving style/habits confusing the system.

A bit more info as to the errors logged, fault conditions, etc would help. Have you been out with the DET on roadtest? Has a Fiat Technical Technician been down to help the Dealer with the diagnosis?, etc ;)

I've only had my 1.2 Lounge Dualtronic a few weeks but I have noticed that if you stop, then reverse, the start/stop system automatically switches itself off. This makes sense as you don't want the engine cutting off when you are parking or doing a three point turn for example.
Stop/start working ok for me but annoying at roundabouts when you only need to stop for a second or two so I tend to switch it off. Is there any way of setting the stop/start to be off by default every time you get in the car other than by using the button on the dash?
Regards,
Esscon

Ok Guys we are talking about a FIAT 500 1.4, dont get me wrong luv the car but its not anything special in respect of having to drive it in a certain way. My main car is an Autodelta super charged Brera S and does not have engine management lights coming on every day, neither do all the hire cars I drive each week.

Unfortunately according to the evidence presented earlier in this thread a *lot* (not all) of the problems are due to driving style. Basically, people holding the car on the clutch for too long and the car (quite reasonably) assumes a fault with the clutch position sensor.

What a silly attitude. If a car needs to be driven a certain way for it to work properly then it needs to be driven that way regardless of whether you have a Brera S, a Merc CLK-GTR or a Lada Samara.

So a Fiat tech (D4nny8oy) says that a good deal os S&S issues are driving style, your garage says it's driving style.... yet you think it's the car. The car is built to operate in a certain way, if you don't want to drive that way then guess what, the dash is going to light up like a Christmas tree.

Yep thats the jist of it:)

It really is a silly situation

What's silly if that you just don't listen to people suggesting a solution and go on about owning an Alfa.....

I have only mentioned my Alfa once as an exsample hardly going on is it(n)

If a system is introduced it should NOT alter how the car should be driven

I have made ONE reference to my Alfa as an example hardly going on is it

The only one that seems to be going on is you(n)

No it doesn't change it- shouldn't be holding the car on the clutch for >10 seconds. Still, reassures me the clutch is tough.
My wife doesn't get it that you shouldn't hold a car on the clutch unless you are just about to start moving

Are we going to get an answer to the above?

If you can get the 'fault' everytime, have you demonstrated it to the DET? At least that way he can definitively show that it's driver error or confirm a system fault.

It's not only holding the clutch at the biting point too long that can cause a fault- if the gearlever (neutral) sensor's "dead-zone" isn't correctly calibrated, a driver resting their hand on the lever heavily enough can make it think it's in-gear while stationary. ;)

OK, my 500 1.2 Lounge was back at the dealer yesterday and they claim to have fixed it. They said it was a faulty relay which has been replaced - I haven't seen the warning triangle since they did it - still early days though.

They also said they've seen two or three with the same fault recently, which was originally resolved by a visiting Fiat technician who said 'Oh, I know what's causing that'...

Posted about a month ago. Since then, my 1.4 Sport SS has spent two weeks at two different garages and since the gear level sensor has been changed, the problem has not reoccurred. If you know you are not doing any of the things you are told you should not do, then don't give up and remember that you are not crazy: it is the car, not you!:)

I have just bought a new fiat 500 1.2 lounge with stop start - It has only done 200miles in the last few days and every time I stop I get the message "stop start unavailable" - I rung the salesman at the Fiat garage who told me it takes a While to kick in when the car is new - a very technical answer - anybody else experienced this ???

Thanks
