Hi all,

Anyone else with BT for their broadband and find it absolutely crap?!

Just loading this took the best part of a minute!

Speedtest Here

I'll phone them up possibly Thursday morning and probably get put through to some guy in India that I can't understand a word he's saying.

It's just absolutely crap.

P.S. I live in Eckington (Bordering Sheffield/Chesterfield).

Yes it's well known it's c**p. Even other providers using BT Wholesale are crap because it's the same system all sharing the same.

You need to go here:-

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

I've had a quick look and you maybe limited to Talktalk.

Find your exchange and see what "LLU" providers are in your area which should provide a much better service than BT and BT Wholesale.

Check your exchange here first:

Personally, I would avoid BT! LLU is the way to go, say via Bethere / O2, if you really need to use DSL.

What exactly is LLU? I've read some bits about it but don't really get it.

This is my exchange.

BT:ROFLMAO: wait until your contract ends and you ask for the PAC code:rolleyes:

I can't wait, I'm fed up of waiting for up to a minute to open FF! I daren't go into member motors on this!

Can you recommend any relatively 'cheap' broadband and phone packages?
I would like it at least 4-5Mbps+ and phone, we use this line for the business aswell.

The following services are available in your location:
 • BT Wholesale ADSL
 • BT Wholesale ADSL Max
 • TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
 • Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
I can't find a static link to it so you can put them in if you want.

You need to click on the BT ADSL link to the left. You don't have ADSL2+ there, max speed on ADSL looks like 2Mb. Should be more if going LLU though...

For instance, mine says:

Standard ADSL RAG results

 • You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
 • You cannot receive 1Mbps ADSL
 • You can receive 512kbps ADSL
 • You can receive 256kbps ADSL
Yet I get around 4Mb with O2, having gotten them to tweak my line.

I miss my 50Mb :(

You can put them back if you want to, they are part of the business address too, readily available to hundreds of websites.

50Mbps  I'd love a speed like that!
I've had it faster than 2Mbps before I'm sure.

BT ADSL broadband availability

You are connected to the Eckington telephone exchange.
 • ADSL is available in your area
 • Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
 • Your exchange is not yet enabled for ADSL2+ services
According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support a 6.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.
Standard ADSL RAG results

 • You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
 • You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
 • You can receive 512kbps ADSL
 • You can receive 256kbps ADSL
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.

So Virgin Media aren't in your area? You havent said.

Failing that, looks like Sky is the better ADSL option for you...

No cable.

In the 'LLU :LOL:SL' tab there is;

TalkTalk (CPW) is available in your area
Sky Broadband / Easynet is available in your area.
Any good?

Easynet, Talk talk and many other ISP's are all owned by Opal. We resell Opal Business broadband at work (which is TalkTalk but you are given 1st priority on support and broadband itself) and it's VERY good, LLU too. Only draw back is it's £20 a month, Shame BEthere isn't there in the exchange.

My Fiancée has Sky Broadband in her house and it's a good service. One thing to note with them is it's a pain in the rectum to change your router for a better one.

That aaisp looks good but it's just BT wholesale and BEthere resold by them?

Well I live in a rural area, so sadly I don’t have much choice, no cable etc.
I’m in my third year with BT and have found the download speeds in general pretty good with an average of 5-7MB/s :p, the upload speeds aren’t great though.
Before switching to BT I used Orange and they were sh*t!:yuck:
Thankfully I must be lucky as the only problem I’ve had with BT was 1 or 2 months ago when they were suffering major problems throughout the UK and practically the whole network was down, what made it worse was the customer support being in India!... that had me pulling my hair out!!!:bang:

When I moved to the new flat I took out 18 month contract with BT - was the only way I could get a brand new line installed for free, otherwise it was stupid money for a new line plus the cost of cancelling some freinds and family deal I didn't even know I had! so now with BT for at least 18 months.

Thankfully so far the service has been awesome! My line speed is low but I am getting full bandwidth for the connection so I don't mind. A million times better than my previous ISP which was Plusnet - completey crappy service line would connect at 5mbits but I'd never get to download anything above 50k, every few days the PPP connection would drop and I'd have to log in with various test usernames to reset the session then try again - very very tedious!
