today my brother went to car wash his td75 brava at a fuel station, and when the car was washed completely and tried to drove off, trouble kicked in.

the CODE light kept staying on (using the blue key) and the engine was turning but refused to fire up. same thing happened when using the red key. another strange thing was that the digital meter remained ON with the keys out of the ignition :s

he also tried to get the engine running while i helped him pushing it downhill but still didnt start.

thought I'd give a go with the fuel cut off switch but didn't help.

the battery ran flat, and with the use of jump leads the car still didnt fire up.

right now the car is at the mechanic for further diagnoses.

what could went wrong? everything was fine before the car wash lol

Hi,Had similar problem with my marea,Was just there was a fuse for the immobiliser had blown and wouldnt start or jump off.It was a 7.5 amp fuse in the drivers footwell.Mine was the top right fuse.I suggest to check them first.

hi,

the mechanic told him that the car started just fine at the first attempt ...

don't know what could have gone wrong yesterday. anyway he'll be looking further to ensure everything is fine.

in that case i'll keep u updated. thanks a lot for the help

hi again,

the mechanic said the ECU is the problem as it's also firing up randomly. whats your reaction to this?

hi again,

the mechanic said the ECU is the problem as it's also firing up randomly. whats your reaction to this?

probably trying to sell you an ecu what he mean buy firing up randomly starting on it;s own it cant do that

also what engine is it

my guess is an earth problem maybe some water got near the chassis earth front left corner under the batery tray causing electrical issues or the engine earth taking this off an 1800 i know for sure will stop it starting even after you put it back i only managed to get mine back working i dont know how after about 20 mins fidling and pulling every fuse i was cleaning the earth for another fault but forgot to turn off ignition before removing and that made everything very confused

failing wiring problems the next most likely fail on these cars is normally dicky code boxes

next time wash the car wile it's running and then drive around till your sure it's hot and dry never wash then try to start

i would ask him exactly why he thinks the ecu caused and ask him to show you this iledged firing up problem? if your car is working fine take it away and see how it goes if it fails again maybe it might give more clues depending up on circumstances as to why it's doing it be it water related or just coincidence it happened at the wash
