Technical bonnet lever problem Stilo 16V active

CAR: FIAT STILO 16V ACTIVE A/C

about to do MOT, couldn't open the bonnet because the in-car mechanism that opens the boot is gone, have ordered the whole part through Gly Hopkins, they are charging £200 to fit it. Question is, can we take the part and look for another garage to fit it at a cheaper cost or is it something that has to be taken to a Fiat specific garage?

Now that we are talking bonnets, how do I align de bonnet? the front right side is considerably lower than the left, by 1cm at least. Doesn't look good

There should be 2 adjustable plastic/rubber buffers on the bonnet slam panel.

thanks for all those that stopped to contribute, a mate of mine whose house we went to for Sunday lunch fixed it in less than 10 minutes, what he did was exactly what was suggested on here. To think that Glyn Hopkin were going to charge us £200 for that! those guys are rip offs!!

I need to have more confidence with tackling car stuff, especially when the best advice are usually from these Forums!! thanks all!!

Do you have to use force on these? I have a slight slack in my bonnet, and would like to raise them 2-3 mm, but feel they will break or crack when I try to twist them. Are they "FIAT o-very-special" plastic crap or is it some metal inside?

You don't need to turn the whole thing to adjust it.

The adjustable center part is on a ratchet. Turn the plastic ring that has a small pointer on it to unlock the ratchet then pull or push the center part to the correct height and lock it by turning the ring back.

I couldn't see how it worked when I needed to adjust mine. I bought a new one just to check it.

No wonder I had a feeling it would break. Maybe I already have wrecked it. Why isn't this in the Stilo bible that comes with the car? 90% of it is useless, but this should be there... or have I overlooked it perhaps.

I think the Stilo "bible" is just to tell you what the pedals and switches are for.

One of my adjusters locked up completely while I was trying to find out how to adjust it. I had to break it apart to get it off the car before fitting the new one. Even when I had a new one in my hand, it still took a while to see how it worked.

Just looked at one of my old ones in pieces. It's an incredibly complicated design just for a bonnet or tailgate buffer.

Anyway, the hexagon plastic/rubber ring to unlock the ratchet is a lefthand thread. Turn it clockwise to unlock it. It should only need half a turn. If you turn it more than 1 complete turn, the whole thing could fall apart.
