Dampers have different valving for bump and for rebound.

I don't know what dampers you have, but the with a single adjustment its going to be one or the other, not both.

Again the difficulty is knowing what that plus 30% is based on.

220lb on a Mark 2 is just short of forest spec, IIRC.

On the Mantas and Asconas, we used 400lb in the forests and 700lb on tarmac, but that was on a wishbone suspension not struts so there is a multiplier effect.

i have sorted it out now suspension wise....the company i bought them from in rugby told me to put the tighter coils on the rear springs at the bottom and the banging i could hear was the coils clashings together i have now turned them round after laying under the car looking at it for half hour and thinking logically....what a difference that made it now handles far better with lots less body roll so as you said rallycinq it all comes from the back!!!!!!didnt make sense to me when you said that but it does now and it goes to show you learn all the way thru your life...so many thanks rallycinq and others for your help...really appreciated.
as for the 10mm spacers and bolts i have found a chap breaking a seicento abarth and has said £2.50 a wheel bolt and £12.50 per spacer although he is open to offers so i said £30 plus postage for the lot.waiting to hear back from him.will keep you updated(y)

Err that is not the best actually as all that happens is the springs fill up with cr*p, corrode and snap, the tight coils usually go at the top

sorry dont think i made myself clear the company in rugby told me to put them the tight coils to the bottom but i changed them round today and its made loads of difference no more feeling as though it bottoms out coming off speed ramps and ive also put the bump stops back on!!!!!sorry if i didnt make it clear.the company had told me wrong and i knew something wasnt right but you tend to trust companies that sell these products so i took his word.....never again.(y)

Ah, its probably the bump stops that have made the difference, without them the coils will bind with a nasty jolt.

possibly helped but it feels stiffer now and doesnt have as much body roll now.just bought new set of poly bushes for the rear then im doing the fronts in about 2 weeks....see how much difference they make.

The bump stops are an important part of the suspension, they will firm up the suspension at the appropraite point.

Rear bushes will help if you've tortured your originals.

powerflex rear poly bushes are now in and its now starting to handle like my old mk2 escort just got the fronts to do when they arrive next week.....post office strikes depending.lol
they must be the easiest rear bushes ive ever had to do took an hour and half from start to finsh.
what other sensible suspension mods can be done apart from whats been said about here.
cheers andy

hi mate ive done the rear with avo adjustable shox with poly bushes,40mm lowered springs and rear trailing arm poly bushes.
the front has pi shortened shox with 60mm lowered springs,i have just ordered all the poly bushes for the front, upper and lower strut braces.
i should think the front end will be loads better once all the poly is in place as it made such a difference with the rear.
going to have a look at demon tweeks for adjustable top mounts.what else is there?????
cheers andy(y)

hello mate i looked on ur forum page and noticed the 1.4 engine conversion you done is it a lot of messing around or pretty straight foward could you write down for me the stuff i would need and the ruff cost thank you

Use the search engine -- see the threads by foxyemx. Arc, Kritip. Taken together these are pretty much a 1.4 16v HowTo. Only attempt this on a Cinq/Sei with brake upgrade, better/bigger wheels, tyres, suspension. Or you will have a huge accident.

On top of that, depending on ECU and engine and gearbox cost, maybe 1000 to 1500 quid.

None. You need to take a grinder to one engine mount, chop down one headlamp bolt. Note that we're talking the SuperFIRE 1.4 16v here, not the older 1.4 which is a much harder job to fit. Essentially the Superfire is a stroked and (slightly) overbored 1108 with a twin cam heAd. The engine is taller, but only wider (back to front in so far as the head is bigger.
