ok one thing: who's got the most powerful barchetta in the forum? (coolest mods, audio, paint, other suff)

I have some plans ;) but I need to get a few things out of the way first. Plans involve engine, breathing, suspension, brakes, interior and wheels&tyres so pretty major!

There's no way I'm going to be off the road for the summer so it might have to wait until October, sadly, but I'm talking to a few people about what I want to do.

You going to make it along to the ACE next week?

It's unlikely as I'm moving house on the Saturday to get away from the mad stalker ex-girlfriend!

I'm registered for Bristol and usually get along to Brooklands though.

the only thing I have I think is the rims and custom exhaust. Can you even put a turbo on it???? LOL gimme more info please. also I really am looking forward to fitting new brakes. how expansive can one complete set (disks + calipers) be? ( Brembo, Ferodo, Stoptech a.o.) also I want a cool air filter same type Doc has on his Silver barchetta. how much is that and how is it helping the car?

:D you have been bitten my friend!! :D

The brakes vary wildly in price, I would suggest a set of grooved discs from Red-Dot or black Diamond (circa £120 for fronts and about £70 for rears) plus a set of fast road pads from Green Stuff (steer away from performance pads unless you are tracking it as they are not very good on the open highway and awful in traffic!!). As for brembo's, if you are thinking of replacing callipers etc that's a whole new world and you would easily blow £1,000 on new callipers/hub's/lines etc etc

There are a couple of threads on fitting the CDA air kit, have a look at the Doc's thread, I think he details it on there!

Good luck and keep modding'!!

I have been playing around with the induction on the B,

Originally i first purchased a green filter kit which was installed as per instructions and was fitted as picture on LRB's . After discussion with Peter (old school) at various ace meets. He sugests that the filter would be much better placed lower down where it would be sucking cooler air than its original position high up above the rad and near the exuast manifold.

So after removal of the old intake box there is more room to be able to place the filter lower. I switched back to the original plastic intake pipe which is flexible and allows you to position the filter just below the battery and more inline of fire from the front air vents . Also away from the exuast. A separate cold feed made from 4inch electrical fan ducting pushes further cold air towards the filter.

I also kept in place the left hand cold feed which i extended to also fire more air.

I have noticed an increase in noise being sucked in. :D and the exuaust sounds great. :D:D.

I would hope that these mods and extra noise would equate to extra power or improoved air flow.

I will be seeing Peter for a Gsr kit on saturday and hope to get the B on a rolling Road soon.

It would be good to know how my Mods have faired, whether good or bad. (y)

I,l post up some pic,s soon. (y)

Here's the pics, of the intake mod,

This isn't aimed at anyone specifically and might be seen as a contraversial but I can't really see the point in spending hours re-routing ducting and re-positioning the air filter to try and extract the very last, what, one horse power (possibly…) on cars which are probably never really driven particularly hard, which aren't given before and after rolling road tests and aren't set up properly to make the most of any changes.

I can understand the fun in the tinkering, and if that's the reason then fair play, but other than that is seems a little unneccessary.

While a rolling road test is the only real test, getting a larger volume of cold air into the engine does make a difference. Obviously it won't help much if the exhaust then restricts the engine.

BMC have got test results on their site to prove it (if you accept them as honest).

My personal experience is that the Barchetta does benefit. I think DanGil had his Punto HGT tested and experienced a significant gain.

if your after brake have a look at this http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pa...iatbarchetta;category=bigbrakesconversionkits

I would love a set of these on my B and one day I might blow some of the xmas bonus on a set but at £1366.56 that is full on money.

I think spending that kind of money on:
Sports CAT £200
Stainless manifold £400
Cams £350
Ported head work £300

Would be a better way to go first.

Much tinkering is needed! We need mpg and hp figures on all possible combinations;)

This pic of a racing barchetta from http://www.trofeobarchetta.it/ shows the Green Cotton filter sat right out in the engine bay and no ducting in sight.

It is possible that anything over 30 mph will provide sufficient cool air anyway. And, I would add likely that anything over 60 would.

The other thing I have considered is fuel economy. A warmer mixture means lower fuel consumption, so an induction kit as pictured below might provide the perfect combination; frugal about town and bloodthirsty on the open road.

I would love it if there were some numbers to study here as all this is just conjecture.:D
