Can't tell from this drawing what pin No.s that would be at the D4 connector but these are the pin No.s at the Body computer (B1) and the engine ECU (M10)

N= BLACK
B= WHITE
C= ORANGE
M= BROWN
A= LIGHT BLUE
S= PINK

didnt work bridged out d4 1 by 1 and still same fault.
cant find a broken wire or anything got the whole engine loom opened up at the mo

does anyone know anyone who can test my ecu please

Hi there, hope someone can help.
My car has broken down 4 times in the past few months. each time it tells me that there is a loose connection and that there are ABS, ASR and car security faliures. I've been told by different garages that it's a loose wire, the key fob/ immobiliser, damp fuse box, my battery and by Fiat that it's the ECU!
The car started when one AA man took of the battery cover, again when another one disconnected all the wires to the fuse box and then again when I got home after being towed!
I really need to sort this out as I want to sell the car to buy something more reliable.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?

All that has been changed so far is 1 relay because I've had so many different opinions and I really don't want to spend too much on the car as I want to sell it and get something else.
Fiat said it was a wiring fault then the ecu and the battery, but the next person said it was the fusebox then the next person said it was wiring or the immobiliser unit, so all that says to me is that I could spend hundreds and the car still might not work properly.

Have you checked the D4 connector under the engine bay fuse box?

started off just every once in a while now its all the time, the cars been to a fiat dealer with examiner , they said they dont know waht to do then asked for 60 quid for the diag test, fiat can gladly stick this car up their ar$e, if fiat cant sort their own cars out then what chance do you have,..



mines going cheap on ebay as from the weekend...

Cheers I will do, think I'll probably end up having to put mine on ebay too!

That is rediculous, how can they not know how to fix it. They should do a product recall!!:)
Fiat charged me £85 to put it on the diagnostic, then when I asked for my money back told me they had also fixed something else as a goodwill gesture!! as if

I only know that he changed the front right relay, only worked while I started the car at home. I drove it to the shop turned the engine off and it refused to start back up.:eek:

Most faults on a Stilo tend to be (bad) earth related or simply due to poor connections (most commonly on a plug/socket somewhere).

I have to say your post is rather contradictory in terms of logic. If you manage to fix your car then you've just lost the reason for selling it :confused:

Most people change their cars when they can't fix them (or given up trying).

I want to sell the car as it's only a 3 door, not ideal with 2 kids.
I wanted to try and fix it before I sold so I'd have more money to buy another.
I've tried a few things to fix it, not as many as Steely! But I can't find the problem.
My car only does 1 way journeys as it is and I've only got 2 more breakdowns with the AA this year, if it breaks down any more I have to pay for it recovering so I've definitely given up on it! :bang:
 
Stilo Throwing a Wobbly

Anybody help with this?

My wife phoned me yesterday saying that her 1.8 Dynamic Stilo was 'throwing a hissy fit'. Everytime she tried to start the engine she was getting 'beep beep beep, ASR failure' then 'beep beep beep, ESP failure' then 'beep beep beep, loose connection', apparently the spanner and oil lights were also both on and the engine would not fire, just cut out(n).

She turned of the ignition and tried again, got the same result (beep beep beep, etc...).

She phoned me in a panic and I told her to literally turn it off completely, take the key out, get out the car and lock the door, then get back in and start again. She did this and the car started first time and came up 'check ok'.

The car has been fine since...

Problem is that she is now afraid of using the car and has no confidence in it, going as far as to say that she wants to get rid of it before it starts giving us problems.

Any idea on what could cause this? Would be nice to be able to put her mind at rest, or is she right and we would be better off moving it on?

Had the ASR / ESP error thing happen a few weeks ago, but simply switching off the car and re-starting seemed to cure it.

Had a few problems when we first got the car which were sorted under warranty, warranty has expired now and the wife is worrind that it might start becomming expensive...

Almost certainly voltage related.

Either low volts from battery or a bad earth somewhere effectively causing the same. A lot cheaper to buy a new battery (make sure you get the very best and NEVER by cheap) than a new car :eek: but it's not guaranteed.

Cheapest tip is probably to only start after CHECKing phase is over as this can dramatically reduce these types of phantom errors.

Interestingly, problems like this are actually decreasing on my Stilo which is not bad going for a battery nearly 6 years old.

Are your brake lights on all the time?if so then the brake light switch is the most probable cause,had all this on mine -changed the switck --now all perfect,no more bleeps!!
 
Faulty ecu??

Hi, I`m new here and hope someone can help me.
I have a 2002 stilo 1.6 which refuses to start. When ign turned on I get messages saying, asr fault, then, immobilisor fault, then, loose connection.
My local garage ( not a fiat dealer) are baffled and say they cannot get into the ecu with their equipment as it seems to be dead. Please help, Chris.

As it's firing up an immobiliser problem then it will never let the car start

so I'd check the immobiliser antenna pick up ring around the ignition switch and the connector wire to it as some people have had a simple problem there

asr warning may be just low battery voltage warning after much turning over of the engine

Loose connection = lost connection and that might be the immobiliser antenna

Asr, security failure & loose connection

I have an 02 Stilo 1.6 Dynamic
I was driving home from work this evening when the engine died as I tried to pull out from a junction.
I had a sequence of failures as follows:
ASR Failure
Alternator Failure
Loose Connection

I switched off the ignition and attempted to re-start. The engine re-started for a few seconds and then cut out. The failures were now as follows:
ASR Failure
Security Failure
Loose Connection
With the engine and security lights on.
The engine will now turn over but there is no life.
Tried both and they keys give the same result.

Any suggestions?

To lose so many systems in one go then you're looking for a bad connection and your car is telling you "lost connection" so that's where you start

Look at the Stilo Guides for how to do voltage drop tests and fixing a bad battery to chassis earth. See if that cures your problems but your battery will probably need recharging so I'd do that with the battery disconnected from the car whilst you're sorting the power and earth lines
