asr failure loose connection

I have been looking for answers to my stilo problem but have had no answers. Finally i built up enough courage to see my local fiat dealer:cry:only to have a bill of £840. first of all they told me it was my airbag ecu so I paid 420 I was chuffed a little as I thought my problems would go away and my car would stop cutting out all the time but no .I drove it home from the garage and it cut out again! back to fiat I went and they kept my car to diagnose for 3 days, they found a software problem in the main ecu which cost me a further £420 well and truelly gutted as I got to pay for my holiday next month. my car runs sweet now:)

Man that's bad !!! you are paying for there wrong diagnosis £420 for something that didn't need changing take the car back tell em to refit the origional part and ask for a refund (y) and dont take no for an answer you are being STUNG.

asr failure loose connection

i had that just after the alarm was fitted. guess what it was?

a loose plug on the back of the fusebox (n)

the stilo is a great car, you were the unfortunate victim of a rather costly dealer picnic.

did they tell you exactly what was wrong?

Re: Asr, security failure & loose connection

I had the same problem with my abarth, ASR,ESP,Imobilisor Auto gearboxr ABS failure loose connection. all fuses relays and wiring were checked without sucess. after being left with the dealer their electrician diagnosed the fault as a dodgy fuse to the ECU. the fuse had not blown, but after measuring the voltage across the fuse it was not correct. this apparently caused all these faults resulting in the car just dying while driving.
i have my reservations as to whether this is true, or did they just get lucky fiddling somewhere and dont know how to explain it.!

ECU Failure Stilo

My stilo would failed to start the other day with errors showing
ASR failure
Car security failure
Loose connection
I took the vehicle to Fiat who diagnosed new ECU and Fuse box at a cost of almost what the car is worth !!!

I have purchased a new ECU from ebay

Does this need to be programmed or is it just plug in and start the car - does anyone know ???

thanks....Jamie

Re: ECU Failure Stilo

yep more likely to be a bad connection at d4 or crank/cam (or even ECU) and a battery on its way out (probably just be the battery..)

body ECU cannot be recoded (must be ordered specifically for your vehicle from fiat)
Engine ECU will code itself to the vehicle on first connect (after first coding it locks.. write once sort of thing.. so if it was plugged into another stilo before they sold it - you can't use it)

good luck dude

So Second hand ECU's for Stilo's are no good.

How many ECU's in total do Stilo's have
Engine, body (I assume this is CAN) etc

How does it know if its been connected to another car:confused:

Re: ECU Failure Stilo

because it expects to 'see' a specific request code from body computer(or code box), which is why you need body computer & keys aswell.

So whats the body computer if its not an ECU then

Is it removeable?

So you need alot of stuff then if going down the 2nd hand spares route then. Coor :( Hope mine never goes wrong!

Re: ECU Failure Stilo

body computer (or GEM modules as Ford call it or BSI as pug call it) are basically switches which control lights/HRW/windows/wipers etc another main purpose of the body computer is the CAN system which has a start (body comp) and a end (ECU or ABS) with all the other modules/nodes in between. The body comp sends/recieves CAN (binary) messages & distributes them out.
