Are service stations open on Xmas day?

Well are they? I'm travelling home on Xmas day straight from work and could use food/ drink and facilities partway down. Anyone know any along the M6 which would be open?

Excellent question, as I was thinking of driving back to Glasgow on Christmas day as the last 2 years I've left it till boxing day. The roads are dead, it's brilliant home in 6 1/2 hours! But as I'm going the other way from you, we can wave at each other as we pass :D

Thats what I was hoping, but someone I work with made me think twice as he said that he thought Christmas day would be busy, as everyone travels to see relatives for the big dinner etc, but Boxing day is always the opposite. So if travelling my thoughts were weight till just before lunch as the tradition is an early dinner on C.day so everyone should be at there place of eating by 12/1pm

Tell you what find a services open & we can have a dried out Fish 'n' Chips :yuck: and a watery coke  that will no doubt cost about £15 each together seeing as the roads are to busy! Meet you half way ;)

I have been known to frequent the Watford Gap services (a roadchef) and so I know for a fact that this they will have the forecourts open but not the main facilities. So you can buy food and drink but only takeaway stuff.

Some of the others down the others down the M1 are motos and I know they did the same last year so I guess they'll all be open. Just forecourts again though not all the facilities.

As long as they have loos and choclate! Though a burger would be nice as I won't have had anything since brekkie :(. I'll be about the same time j333evo as I finish work at 1 so should hit the m6 about half one and onewards from there.

Definately chocolate don't know about the loos, in fact I can't say I've ever ever been to a motorway service station forecourt has anyone ever noticed they charge about 5p/litre more than anywhere else?!

He's quoting me without permission, cheeky bastard! I will be taking you to court unless you remove it ;)

Helzie, take some sandwiches!

Well by what Dr Pepper is saying it will be one of those burgers that you have to stick in the microwave yourself in the service station as looks like the eating holes are shut!

Oh well finishing at that time should be good for traveling for you.

You got far to go?

Unfortunately whenever I decide to drive to Scotland I have to stop for the rip off petrol, as I've never been able to get there on one tank, its about a 465mile trip, nearly did it in a 1.1 Fiesta once only cost £35 whereas the one time I took the integrale cost me about £55

Not as far as you! It's only just over 180 miles, which is far enough. I can usually make it on the big half of the tank, but the little half won't make it back ;). Depends how hard I push it though, and with little/ no traffic I'll be pushing it :).

Some usually are. I had to go to Bournemouth on Christmas day last year and had forgotten to get fuel, but there was one open in Shaftesbury, which is hardly a thriving metropolis.

In my experience, it tends to be either 24hr places that are open until noon only or the occasional independent that has a particularly sad person who runs it.

If that takes you as far as Birmingham, then I can only pass on my joy at the M6 toll and its camera free 27 miles of bliss, even when its busy its always nice & quiet as so many people don't like spending £3 but for a half hour at least of my journey it money well spent! :D
