ours died a month or so back. so i put it on timeout in the garage. just tried it again and it still doesnt work.

it powers on nicely, all lights up and goes 'beep' to say hello. you set it to a programme, hit 'start' it spins the drum a tiny amount and BAM off goes the power. It trips the RCD.

any ideas what might be up with it?

theres none really near it that i can see.

you dont think its summit to do with a fault on the heater, or just a motor fault then? this thing aint all that old - cant think why any wires might've been caught by the drum :s

motor shorting. if it trips teh RCD then its a high powered component using 240v

it's got a setting for 'cool air'

so i set it to that, and it spins happily.

i adjust it to warm air, and BAM

luckily ive found another RCD i can plug in, so it trips that one rather than taking out all the plugs / lights.

So it's the heater element that is tripping the system. Have a look for a condensate leak - that used to trip my parents condensing boiler.

Sounds like the heating element is either partially shorted and drawing too much current, or (more likely) is shorting to earth.

Whip it to bits and have a look at the heating element itself, the insulation supporting it and the wiring running to it. A multimeter on resistance setting will help you find any shorts :)
