heres a question, has any one done a DPF delete.
I understand that you may not want to broadcast this info , it may be legal or no issue in your country.
what i would like to do is charecterise with MES so we know what a Deleted DPF would look like. (got ideas but show me the data)
PM me in confidence. I all ready have data for HPEGR and LPEGR delete and a LPEGR delete on its own, but not a sieve removal and cracked DPF.View attachment 445173
So its been a few weeks since I started this thread and the van is currently at a workshop getting the DPF delete and hopefully the EGR bypass done. Hopefully I see the van back very soon and I'll update with results. I'm happy to share MES results however I don't have the right obd cable, whats an inexpensive option?

whats an inexpensive option?
i always reccomend the OBDlink products the cheapest is the SX version which i know has been obtained from ebay.au yes i know youre in NZ. In my linked guide i wasted 13 quid to prove that cheap ones were possible ( wasted because i dont need it have 1 usb device and 2 BT devices.
is there an nz version of ebay? i ended up searching ebay.au and ended up with one for $33 au 16quid from the UK the same supplier as i have used at least twice inc the last cheap one.

Thanks alot, I'll get the obdlink SX and attempt to share the data once I get the van back. Hopefully this'll prove useful information to the Fiat community

no problem, the SX is a good choice so many cheap elm ones simply do not work. The data will be helpfull in the greater understanding of what happens.

Alternative reason ive been given for the sieve is not as a filter but a spark arrester.

has this photo of a blocked cooler cut in half

Soak in coke, vinegar or drain cleaner rinse through throughly and then put in a sonic cleaner for few hours will unclog it.

@Redeagle cleaning is the easy bit. On a twin EGR non adblue the problem is getting to the blocked cooler. First you need to detach the lower suspension and remove the subframe, then detach and remove the DPF, all this done on a garage H ramp, only now can you see the LP cooler. Takes a proficient guy between 8-12 hours.
The real cure is a replacement DPF along with a new or cleaned EGR cooler plus checking and replacing any damaged injectors. To conclude it needs software issue 28 or 32 from Fiat.
.
This expensive procedure is why owners search for an EGR delete. You need to investigate both the HP EGR and the LP EGR. There are very few mechanics who have knowledge of these variants, (only made 2016/ 2017/ 2018).
.
I own one of these twin EGR variants hence knowing the above scenario.
.
It's a pity that EGR deletes are illegal in the UK.

I'm from NZ with a 2013 Ducato 130

This is of interesting read. The conclusion I find is buying a newer model Fiat Ducato are not always better (going form EURO5 to EURO6). Last year I had issues with my DPF and I cursed at how sensitive the sensors are in these engines. A 'P' code reference to the DPF sensor was at fault. Thing is it was random, I would use my scan tool and delete the code, drive for a week and it would come back. Thought it was loose wiring too but nope, the sensor was the problem. Now with twin EGR cooler and adbloc blue additives as part of maintenance, etc. What a hassle with the complexities involved.

To the original poster, I would go with EGR / DPF delete / removal. Just get it fix the right way by replacing what is defective. The issue is modern engines are very sensitive and any change will lead to more breakdowns. In NZ, majority of the Fiat Ducato motorhome lines are heavy class category that require COF inspection (basically annual inspection based in the heavy truck, multi-axel category). Those inspectors would know in a heart beat if the DPF was removed or altered. Whereas if your Ducato is van based under the 3500kg GVR category, then it will fit under the WOF inspection category (which is the same category as conventional cars, light trucks, etc 90% of the car population). Garage mechanics would not be so close to inspect these issues as in NZ, we don't have air care testing in WOF.

I do believe there's a primary issue why people have problems with emission devices like DPFs. To my mind it's 'user behaviour' in that DPFs tend to get clogged up when doing too many short distance commutes, city driving, or use their vans not long enough where the computer can not engage in a proper DPF cleaning / purges cycle. Driving it hard also helps in purging the DPF out as the higher RPM creates more pressure to exhaust the gasses out through the DPF. Driving long distance on the highways stuck at low RPM labouring the engine, will tend to clog things up.

BTW, the replacement DPF sensor I purchased was off AliExpress. In every way the part was identical to the original (same plastic molding, same printing and stamp marks). But without the fancy European sticker as shown here:

@SBQ the Euro 6 twin EGR Ducato does not have adblue. Later Euro 6 adblue has only one EGR.
.
To delete the DPF of a twin EGR costs a fortune because to remove the DPF for gutting out the inside necessitates removing the lower suspension and subframe, you can't get at in in any normal way.
.
The twin EGR models that have the blocked cooler syndrome are damaged by original faulty software,/ possible manufacturing quality issues of the DPF, it's got nothing to do with driving habits.
.
Your comments on driving behaviour are definitely relevant to other variants.

I have a twin egr model also,so far no issues with L pass egr cooler.Have done just on 49000ks.If,when it becomes blocked I will get the L pass egr delegated.By the way my exhaust pipe is sooty and haven’t had any fault codes of any sort.It has update 32.

@Hank25 can I suggest you join us on the P0401 Ducato main post, the one that's now on sixty something pages. I'm working on an idea to add a resistor to the LP temp probe wiring to make the LP EGR not open so far thus stop it getting to fully driven when it strangles the engine. As said, I'm working on my idea.....

Totaly agreee the main p0401 etc thread is important but for those new to subject
Reading across the internet there is mix of twin egr delete failure and succes this may be to the failures not spending the time removing the DPF for alteration and poor understanding of the entire error trapping of the twin egr system(ecu map) It was a long time before alternative MAPS were available. As to dpf blocking being due to driver inability to use right foot this may be a factor but Fiat has its hand dirty in terms of poor design/ sensor selection eg X250 diiferential sensor low down and affected by condensation and poor sensor batches, post twin egr ie adblu have sensor issues with the matter sensor.

Yes I have read and am watching the main P0401 post.Don’t know how your idea will go as I see there is what looks like a position sensor inside the LP EGR which obviously sends signal to ecu. However, good luck.
