yes i realised i hadn't updated template 0 but was on a road trip with my kids... with do so before the next for sure! If i'm in a position to do so, i will give it a good boot during the next regen and see if i can spike the temps with the throttle - i think @theoneandonly suggested this might be contributory a while ago.

With reference to repair / recondition, one company has seen the boroscope footage - they advised that perhaps the cement cracking between the bricks is the only issue and suggested it 'could' be a reasonably easy fix. they also advised that the LPEGR cooler port is the only real difference between my DPF and a number of others which are more easily available (reconditioned, mine are rare as rocking horse sh*t apparently) so what they can sometimes do is use another as a donor part - take the innards from it and place it in the case of mine - so i get my original case back with a warranty'd filter matrix. prices roughly as follows:

clean / repair cement £200ish
replace innards or OEM reconditioned £1400ish
New OEM £3500ish

I'll be doing some more investigations and phone calls on this during the week!

you can see why the push to understand everything before putting a new one on :(
Absolutely! DPF's and the labour involved are not cheap! As I said earlier - you could just keep on driving - but the soot build up may not just affect the cooler, but also beyond - the LPEGR valve, turbo, intercooler etc. So, perhaps early intervention is desirable. First step would be to get an expert to undo the outlet of the DPF and have a qualified inspection to confirm. If the decision is made to go ahead, then you would also have to inspect the cooler for soot content as it would be easy and relatively cheap to replace at the same time.

yes i think this is the road i am going down - and you'll recall the start of all of this was needing a new LP EGR! i have already sourced a mechanic who is willing to have the vehicle with him for a week or so while the dpf is sent away - obviously commercial garages dont want this hassle they just want the turnover of easy jobs. He has already also agreed in concept to examine the egr cooler while the DPF is away - i havent priced this yet, nor have i absorbed the thread on the P0401 codes etc - I understand there is a 'tea strainer' inside where the blockage occurs but do you have any thoughts on cleaning versus replacement of this?
