If so and you have that annoying wait 5 seconds box coming up at startup and constant balloon reminders then do this to stop it

Go to c:\windows\system32 and locate the following file WgaLogon.dll

Right click on the above file and rename it... or add a letter to it. i.e ( WgaLokgon.dll )
Restart your machine...

NO MORE NOTIFICATION!!!

Anyone know how to get Updates? a "mate of mine" is having issues with his copy of Pro.

If your mate is having trouble getting updates through the website, set automatic update in control panel to check and notify only, wait a few mins or just reboot. Windows should then tell you what critical updates are available. Select which updates you require, download and install. Job done.

DoH! Can't help you with Microsoft stupid website coding :D

Isn't there a number you can call? Did he register the COA to his name?

remove the wga dll and exe files from c:\windows and c:\windows\system32.

I had to do this to remove it despite phoning microsoft to register XP... you need to do this in "safe mode with command prompt" because it loads both these images as the system user, so you can't stop them from running in the normal windows mode.
