Ok, Difficult question this, but here goes.

Does anyone know the full contents of the original 899 trofeo kit? I know they managed to get 65bhp out of the motor, and I'm really curious as to how. I've seen a photo but it's too small to see actual components, bar the big bits obviously!!

Am just curious to know how they did it without turbo's!

I used to have the information, but it got lost, in the usual manner.

Methinks it was headwork, cam and different inlet. I know the later 1108 had MPi, not the same as the current Sei set up, and they got 110 bhp out of that.

Cheers

there was a trofeo 899 manifold on ebay the other week.

there was a link of cc forum about trofeo cinqs. have a look on there if not i think arc knows the link.

That link is cento porn at its finest...

IIRC they run 110BHp out of the box...on FIA approved race fuel :)

so prob only bout 95/100 bhp on standard forcourt crap!

I'm not interested with the sporting as ours is an sx.

I'm expecting head work but i'd like to know how? was it a specially cast head?

i mean to go from 39 to 65bhp is quite an increase!

Probably...the 899cc inlet design is a err....crap to put it bluntly :)

just ever so slightly!

The only way round that I can see is bore it out till it's as round as possible and machine a spacer to go inbetween the head and the TB.

Would drop the hight of the tb as well.

The Trofeo, if what I'm told is correct, was based on the 903 and not the 899

The CR was raised fairly substantially and porting/headwork/cam/exhaust/ecu must have been done..................would have thought the engine would have been balanced/lightened throughout, don't know if group A regs call for standard issue pistons/rods :chin:

Only difference between the 899 and the 903 is the pistons and bore, heads are identical!

This is the photo i've seen, and i can make out

plugs, ecu, oil cooler, bash plate wheels/brakes/supension, rollcage and braces, seats, full exuast system. At the front I think i can make out a cam, pushrods and tappets. There is a Bob on the far right and the big bulky black thing on the far right looks a bit like an airbox? pluss i found this photo of a sporting trofeo, which seems to show an airbox arrangement that appears based on the 899/903 airbox.

also found one of a 903 which shows the airbox. the sporting appears to have a cone filter or a bell-mouth on, I cant quite make it out!!

Actually, the difference in cc comes from the stroke and the 903 does run a slightly higher CR as standard IIRC :p Bores are the same.

ah, i thought the bore was bigger! I stand corrected. SO did they just use shorter pistons to lengthen the stroke, or is it a longer cylinder? And does anyone know what year fiat changed to 899?

The 899 came in 1993, according to carsfromitaly.com

so 903's weren't sold over here then, if so they'll all be totally dead. shame coz theres a early 93 in my local scrappy with a good motor. Well I think it's 93. hmm will the capacity be stamped on the block somewhere?

Jon+Em

(apologies to myself for going OT)

Also it says on carsfromitaly.com that the stroke is 0.3mm (about 25 thou) longer for the 903.

Why not get it anyway and get a shop to stroke it for you?

And I think the 903 engine was fitted to the Uno at some point as well.........

hmm. what is entailed in getting it stroked? just slightly shorter pistons? I know that would lower the compression ratio though?

Jon+Em

I think stroking would entail crank grinding. The con rods may need modifying, but I don't think piston mods are needed. Not sure on that one.

It may be worth asking an engine tuner, such as Rob Walker Engineering directly.

Or if you can find a 903 Uno.............................use the engine in that.
