Hi I am storing my brothers Suzuki bandit for him.it is outside but under a roof,it also is covered with an oxford bike cover.the disc are going rusty and there is a little white stuff on the engine,is there something I could use to spray on to protect the parts?thanks for any advice

On most UJMs (Universal Japanese Motorbikes) the front disc(s) were usually steel and shouldn't really rust; they were quite often stainless, whereas rear discs are frequently iron and will build up a layer of rust. However, if it has a centre stand, and a Bandit does, you should be able to start it up, select 1st and gently apply the foot brake while keeping the throttle open - a little. Make sure you don't let the rear tyre touch the ground.

They should be run occasionally anyway to try and keep some oil in as many different parts of the engine and 'box as you can. Assuming it still has its centre stand you can keep the chain oiled, although chain wax might be a better bet if it's not going to be ridden for a long time.

Keeping it on the side stand for too long can allow the engine oil to drain away to the left hand side which can cause long term problems. If it's on the centre stand rotate the front wheel a little every few weeks to avoid getting a flat spot or two.

There are plenty of preservative coatings available:

That ought to do it. Muc Off is available at motorcycle shops and Halfords.

If you are not going to be starting the engine up now and then, say every 3 weeks or so then draining of the carbs should be done, its not worth getting engine lock,as fuel does
sometimes drain into the engine block on older bikes and for sure on 1200 bandits if that is the one you have..Now all i need to do is take my own advice..
