Hi all,
Im looking for some free (of the net) antivirus/virus scanning software.

Any recommendations?

Cheers, Mark

I have used avg for years it has never let me down, was recommeded by a IT guy at work other day to a collegue also. Go to free.grisoft.com (no www's, just as typed here).

I prefer Kaspersky to everything else, tried & tested them all and NOD32 & Kaspersky definately come out on top but in the end it's just personal preference.

whats wrong with a cracked version of NAV06? (or the whole Norton Internet Security Suite) get bittorrent and download it, its just a little bit illegal, but so far not one person on earth has ever been done for using an illegal copy, only selling it, so its risk free.

Who said the ones above aren't cracked ;)

And anyway NAV06 is rubbish - it is bloatware, takes over the machine, slows it up, and is resource hungry. You look at any proper computing forums, and it is never rated :) AND yes, I USED to use it, but ended up having to turn it off all the time.....

NAV/SAV & McAfee are too big these days, often they are directly attacked by viruses (or more accurately worms and trojans) to disable the very features that should project the computer.

yes but norton's signature files are updated earlier than any other companies, and any newish computer with broadband should not suffer any resourse limitations (i dont notice any? even the autoupdate has no effect on download speeds or cpu availability)

Kaspersky all the way... Our company has removed NAV from approx 30 PCs, installed Kaspersky and every single one has had a virus of some sort!

And it doesn't really slow the PC down.
