ABS Bearing question

Well, it's now in with an automotive electrical specialist.
Short of animal sacrifices, I think that's all I can do.

It must be the most expensive cheap Fiat in history.

It just worries me that I can hear the ABS pump until the lights come up.

Ok, here's the news .. It's all fixed....!
No, of course it isn't.

The automotive electrical specialist had the car for 6 days and there's no wiring issue they can find.

They have suggested changing the ABS pump, suspecting the ECU on top of it.

Slightly confused by that, I didn't know the ABS had it's own ECU but OK.

They aren't sure if it needs coding to the car either.. yikes. what?

I'll need to find one and get a quote for fitting it, bet that's expensive and just another costly shot in the dark.
and then maybe it won't work due to "needing coding".

Ask me if I'm fed up....

I found this link from 15 years ago, somebody had the same front left sensor problem on the same model, changed the abs pump and it didn't fix it.

And a corresponding problem

What tells the OBD port you have a Bad signal.
The ABS UNIT..??

or basic loom..??

I'm afraid I don't know, I just plug into the 3 pin diagnostic port.
It's really had to see where any of the wires go. I'll ask when I pick the car up.
(I'll guess the ABS unit since they suggest changing that..)

should I try a PM to the member you mentioned?

I've found that there are indeed two parts on ePer
ABS pump - 71715592
ABS ECU - 71719243

But I'll almost certainly have to buy them together as a used unit, there's one on ebay for 80 quid
which looks right but curiously listed as part 46558579

Before you jump in at the deep end and start just randomly chucking parts at it how about contacting one of the ECU testing businesses like these folk: https://www.ecutesting.com/ (there are others) and talking things over with them. I believe the cost of checking it out is not all that much and at least then you'll know with confidence whether you have an ABS ECU unit problem or not. If it requires a rebuild then because your original unit, once reconditioned, is going back into the car you won't need to recode (if recoding is actually needed with a new unit?)

Interesting idea, I'll have a look at that. Hopefully testing could be done in situ.

The electrical specialist thinks the ODB port goes to the ABS unit.
He also thinks the abs ecu is coded to the pump, my mechanic tells me on newer cars it's coded to the car.
(which would be a complete nightmare). So, there's another worry. It's maybe, probably, ok just to swap out pump+ECU together.

My mechanic tells me it's a couple of hours work, but if the bleed nipples are stuck then it's new calipers, possible brake pipe issues etc
and it quickly gets even more expensive.

So I'm thinking the ABS unit is something I get done a week before the MOT is due, then if it all goes horribly wrong then at least
my boy had it for the summer.
That said, he's still pleading with me to save it "for Grandad".

This car is just killing me...

If you can SEE where the left and right sensors feed into the ABS..

Is it possible to swap the feeds?

If the fault moves..its still the sensor signal

If fault remains.. its the ECU

IM Still thinking an Alfa specialist will have 'crossed this bridge'...

It's just a big old plug o stuff, hard to tell what goes where. (your logic makes sense to me though)



I'd happily try an old school alfa specialist if I could find one...
