While on my way to work I stopped off to buy my tea and a car, for want of a better word, pulled into the space behind me. It totally filled my rear view mirror, and here's why. a) it was huge and b) it was virtually on top of me! I had to have a look when I got out and, disconcertingly, so did the lady who parked the Audi! I just can't understand why she felt the need to park so close when there were so many spaces available.

I didn't feel at all comfortable, all I could see in my mirror was the radiator grille of an Audi!
To be honest it did seem to have front parking sensors but I don't know how sensitive/accurate they are, I wouldn't park that close to the car in front with a human telling me when to stop and in a supermarket car park it's just inconsiderate, she didn't know whether I needed to get in to my boot.

I would have asked her how you are supposed to get in your boot?
From the antics of many of the women driving their kids to the private school very near to my house in these monsters I would say that she probably just guessed where the front end was and you were lucky she didn't use you as a brake. Many of them round here just drive up the middle of the road because they don't seem to be able to judge the size of the car at all.

What I'ld like to know is what was wrong with the six other spaces next to you?

I refer you to post number two, many people don't feel comfortable parking in empty space. Enthusiasts park with space because they don't want to get the car bumped. Most people don't care they just like parking next to someone else.

That explains why it is that when I nip to the loo at Tesco & I park my bus over by the click/collect shack (Tring Rd), the muppets always seem to be parked right alongside me - despite there being hundreds of empty spaces all around!

I just assumed it was something to do with the muppet magnets!

Obviously the Muppet magnets help, as these drivers have a highly developed Muppet gland which the magnets work upon. :D

I'd have been really worried except for two things.

1: Audi Q7.
2: Front parking sensors.

Without them she'd have either parked on top of you.....or in the next county!

should have tried to open your boot...

wonder how good parking sensors are and will they see a nice swan neck tow bar jutting out 6"

still it could have been worse:

(( on a side note i posted this pic on a work mates Face book wall as he has a White terranno van..... and tagged him should have seen the concerned friends of his responses)

She'd probably just say you shouldn't have reversed into the space.
People don't seem to reverse bay park anymore, its so much easier to reverse into a space than it is to reverse out of one, don't understand why people don't do it

Its easier to load shopping into the boot of a front in parked car than a reversed in car. I prefer to reverse park (I even reverse into my garage) but will front park at the supermarket.

Especially if you have a huge tailgate (like my doblo !).
However, having a pair of sliding rear doors means that for the majority of shops that I do, reverse parking is the way to go.

I don't know how others feel - but I find it so much easier, when I see a space, to pull across the aisle at an angle & reverse into the space - especially when the space is ONLY just wide enough due to others parking with their wheels on the line:devil:
And, of course, getting out is a breeze since you only have to worry about pedestrians and oncoming traffic whereas parking nose in - your view of these is very restricted and you're also watching out for how much room behind you as well as your front end.

I would hazard a guess and say he didn't reverse into that space, but did what my late wife called a " drive through ". When we went out and parked anywhere, going in forwards wasn't allowed, it either had to be reverse in or a drive through.

I've seen people reversing into each others "boots" doing this

Yes this is why I said in the first place that she'd claim you shouldn't reverse in....
But if people don't park so idiotically you can usually access you boot perfectly fine reversed in, well unless you have a trolley but I'm a student, I can never afford a trolley full of shopping...
