If you go to carparts4less
I use triple qs fully synthetic 5w40. for the filter there's two sizes so you can enter your registration on that site. Check the filter you take off is the same size as one you're going to put on too.

You don't need a Haynes. There's a few guides on here. Good tips though, make sure the rubber seal of the old filter is on the old filter and not stuck to the engine and only twist the new filter on hand tight. Fill about 2.8ltrs then top up to full with dip stick. When you drain the oil leave the fill capa ajar so it can flow.

Filter is accessed from under at the front. It's easy access

It's pretty simple, as mentioned there are a couple of different oil filters fitted, take the number off the old one, if it's a genuine one it will most likely be one of these:

Ebay is awash with genuine filters, often no more than pattern ones.

The oil filter should spin off with your hand unless someone has screwed it on too tight, then a filter strap or chain might be needed to get it moving, most motorfactors will sell something suitable.

NEVER hammer a screwdriver though one to use as leverage, I've seen plenty chew up just leaving the top ring of the filter stuck in place.

Just warm up the engine for a few minutes (you can warm it through after adding engine flush, but I'm not a lover of the stuff).

Undo the drain plug and let it drain for 10 minutes or so.

Clean off the drain plug and hole, then refit the drain plug, it only needs 15lbs of torque, so don't over tighten it.

Pull the oil filter, make sure the old O ring comes off with it.

Lightly smear clean oil on the new O ring and fit it to the new filter without any kinks.
Now clean off the sealing surface on the engine, a dap of petrol/white spirit on a rag will do, then screw the new filter on hand tight. I usually gauge tightness by screwing it up as tight as I can with one hand.

It takes around 3.5 litres, add around 3 let it settle on the flat for ten minutes, then top up until you get the right level on the dip stick, this saves over filling.

Start it up and check the drain plug and oil filter for leaks.

If you're going to use Eurocarparts, there are discount codes floating around various forums, these tend to work when they haven't already a sale on, but Euro are like DFS, there's always one on!
I borrowed this one from a Corsa site, UKCN25

I use LASTCHANCE30 for 30% off at ECP and SAVEME75 for 7.5% off at their, often cheaper, sister company CarParts4Less. CP4L are also doing £5 off £50, £10 off £75 and £15 off £100 at the moment. Depending on how much you spend, one of those could well save you more than the 7.5% code. Just enter both at the checkout and see which gives you the bigger discount :).

All of that said, discount codes won't work at ECP at the moment as they're having their up to 50% off summer sale, they will still work at CP4L though :).

Hi Sean and welcome to FF, : - )

nice simple job, :- ) access is VERY good, NOTHING in the way..,

the 12mm hex is necessary,
it's a tapered plug.. so NO washer to change.. ; - )

I use one of these from Sykes Pickavant too,

( had enough of having the bodge things after being supplied faulty / wrong filters.)

google - Europarts, and GSF compare prices and which has a branch nearest you..,
( postage is often free)

Eurocarparts are based in Derby I believe, ( I've not used them..)
and are often recommended by the FF faithful,

IMHO Haynes manuals are a waste of money,

if you can get a used one from Ebay,
or even cheaper the local library.. then go for it.. but I've better things to spend £20 on,

Thanks guys for the great help, will follow your suggestions and change the oil and filter. Thought it was easy, but better to ask than muck it up, eh

I'd go for a genuine filter. Did an oil change on mine at the end of last year and 3 months later the seal blew and it lost all of its oil at 60 MPH. Probably extremely unlucky there but not ideal situation to be in!

MY ONLY Failure of a filter seal , ( on a panda..) was the day after FIAT Main dealer service.. :bang:
