Technical 2003 2.8 JTD Ducato heater fan problem

Hi my heater blower has only been working on a couple of the settings for a while and reading through the forum it seem the resistor might be the problem.
The other day I got back from a drive and the fan stayed on no matter what setting I had the fan on.
Tried it again later and the fan didn't stay on but only works on a couple of setting again.
I usually have to turn the controller backwards and forwards past the setting I want a couple of times to get it to work on that particular speed setting
What do you think would be the most likely problem, would it be the resistor or the contacts on the actual controller knob.

From your last statement it sounds as if the fan switch could be the problem.
The part No. for the switch is 1305589080 if that number hasn't been since superseded. I had trouble with the fan in ours which was traced to bad connection on the resistor as I could see from the slightly melted plastic connector. Can be found on eBay ----

Had a little time today and got to dismantle down to the white panel with the controller knobs on it, as shown in the pictures on Google Translate link above, I'm not sure if they have the pictures out of sequence, so next do I push the panel with knobs back into the cavity behind and pull it out at an angle

I have tried to get the back of the control knob panel but I cannot get it out far enough to see behind, I don't want to force it too much as I don't know what connections I might pull out or damage as it is quite tight for space behind it.
I have got it out nearly as far as in the picture from another suggested forum post (see below), but I cannot get it out any more.
Has anyone done this and can give me some tips to replace the fan control knob

Hi, I replaced the fan switch on mine a few weeks ago following advice on here.
That white panel is a bit of a pig and I was convinced I couldn`t get to the back of the switch but if you persevere and manipulate that panel back then forward at an angle with a twist, it can be done. Only enough to get your fingers in but that`s enough.
Just remembered, as the panel pushes back it engages with two spikes, these keep it straight. You have to avoid it engaging and that will allow it to be manipulated better.

Thanks very much for that advice, before I take it all apart again how does the switch come off the panel, do you just get your fingers behind the panel and pull it off
