Just been offered a very nice 1998 ducato motorhome with a 1.9 diesel.
I have always wanted this type of vehicle but thought they cost telephone numbers.
My son is desperate to buy it-I suspect for his own passionate reasons!.
The diesel has done 140000 miles a bit high but its non turbo.
Am I correct in thinking it has plenty of trouble free life left?
Does this engine have any weaknesses eg water pump-liner corrosion-core plug corrosion?.
I take it being based on a commercial vehicle mechanicals are fairly robust?
Even Italian mechanicals--servicing does not bother me as my son has just lovingly rebuilt a 1953 Ford Pop so all things mechanical-a doddle.

What does bother me is buying notoriously Italian machinery but I could be persuaded at this very reasonable price!

I've a coachbuilt 1.9td, done about 80,000 with no problems, similar year.
Older ones tend to overheat, new radiator, and sort out the fan relays usually cures it. Heater matrix goes occasionally.
Only downside is mine is vastly underpowered, I'll never win any prizes for getting up hills. Beyond that seems ok for the last 10 years I've owned it.
Engines and gearboxes are getting a bit few and far between, but you can still get bits if you ever need them.
