My 1997 1.9TD Ducato based motorhome has a problem with the immobiliser.

I have had the immobiliser recoded, along with a new blue key, but the code light still shows, when I try to start the engine.

All contacts to the immobiliser are clean and secure and the ring aerial is in place and seems fine as it has the correct continuity resistance when tested.

The engine cranks well, but it will not start.

The guy who re-coded he immobiliser is telling me that I need to remove the 'coded' fuel pump solenoid and replace with an un-coded one, but this doesn't seem right to me.

1) Does the solenoid really also have a 'code' and need coding?
2) If not, why is the code light still on?
3) If it does have a code, won't bypassing/replacing the coded solenoid, render the immobiliser useless?
4) Will the code light then remain on permanently, making the van difficult to sell?

Has anyone had this problem, and does anyone have a wiring diagram or system operation description.

At the moment The van is on my drive going nowhere.

HELP!

I can offer some anecdotal information relating to my previous 1998 2.5TD van (anecdotal as the mod was done before I acquired the van)

The fuel cut-off solenoid electrical supply *was* via a PCB board located within the pump assembly which unscrambles the coding from the immobiliser. The modification was to remove the PCB and feed the solenoid directly from the ignition switch (the board already has this supply so the electrical part of the mod is relatively easy)

This mod obviously disables the immobiliser function but my van had an aftermarket alarm fitted.

I recollect that there are a few threads somewhere on the forum relating to this procedure, so you may get more information through the search function.

This has certainly been covered on here before.

I havent used the SEARCH function on the 'new look' fiat forum though to help you locate a previous thread..

EDIT SEARCH in Advanced still works ok :)

Thanks Crossingkeeper,

I've seen this solution posted elsewhere in the forum but was hoping there may be an alternative, as I don't really want to leave the immobiliser inoperative. It's also really difficult to get to the pump and it sounds difficult to access the solenoid even when you can get to the pump! Might have to bite the bullet all the same. Thanks again, Ian

Thanks Varesecrazy, thanks for the explanation below. I was looking for a solution that would leave the immobiliser operational, but I can't find one. Your pictures will be useful too when I bite the bullet and get on with it. As I've said in another reply, the pump and solenoid look really difficult to access. Did you remove the pump, or the grille/radiator, or did you find another way to get to it? Thanks again, Ian
