I
If you watched one of the newer top gear episodes it shows that all 17 year olds have stupidly high insurance.

Unfortunately its a fact that most leaners (by definition learning to drive..you learn to drive after you pass your test) bend their car within the first 6 months either big bend or little bend. Its also true that the most accidents involve 17-23 year old males, overconfidence, alcohol and impressing the bird are all major factors. That's why youngsters + Astra get high premiums and Dad with a Focus and 3 kids pays less.

Be careful with not declaring mods..The cheaper insurance companies actively look for reasons to refuse claims..so a 17 yr old with a chaved up banger, wally wheels, fat tailpipe, tinted windows, stickers etc will have their claim 'reviewed' automatically..

Comeback isn't worth it..6 penalty points and your car seized with the strong possibility of an appointment with the crusher...do you really want a criminal conviction?..all hail to the police state :worship:

I haven't read the entire thread because.... well.... I couldn't be ar5ed so if I repeat what others have said then it was probably good advice.
Have you thought of asking for a policy with a restriction on your annual mileage, workout what you need say 5000 miles per year and see if the insurance company will reduce your premium. Also put a parent on as a named driver that might work.

who needs insurance :p:D

I never thought of the annual mileage thing? Do they just put a tracker on?
I hate being restricted though, completely.
Thanks, don't worry I'm not one of those chavs that believe they can go out without insurance. I have half a brain cell.

Fairly sure Josh was joking

If its like the ones that wont let you use your car after 11pm and before 6 or 7am...I think they put a tracker in...but, I believe, they can also see what speed your doing as well.

I don't like the idea of restricting my driving just to get insurance I could afford but, it would only be for a year or two until you have some NCD.

He was joking, but there are some people (not on here I hope) that would take that as advice and not a joke.

interesting...seeing as my MoT last year was 103,000 and this year 51,000 cause i changed my speedo. i wonder what insurance would make of that!

Lol. Thats one way to put them off the scent, as you've not done anything illegal, as MOT purly makes a not of the 'recorded' mileage. And apparently I've been told that you can even request that they don't record it :p

are you insured yet???

if not, the easiest, cheapest possible thing you can do is:

put the car in your parents name, so they legaly own the car
make an insurance policy in thier name for your car and thier car...
then you become a named driver on their insurance on your car (legaly thier car now)

if they have plenty of NCB then your insurance shoudn't be too much, about 700 quid max i reckon..

(i know this is called fronting and illegal, but its what most people do. And you will less likely be caught out because of the fact that your car will now be legaly owned by your parent(s))

but if they dont have many NCB then you might aswell just get your own policy and pay the rapage price...

and from now on, i think you should start using your money for your insurance instad of modding the car, you have done a good job on your punnie, so i would like to see some use out of it lol...

hope i helped,
Carl.

Helped him breaking the law.

Might be cheaper...but...he crashes...insurance company find out that he was fronting, insurance wont pay out.

Might be wrong, but believe MEP has said before that if someone dies in a car crash, its costs around £1 million, so insurance companys are going to try and get out of it if they can.

Also, believe it was on here, someone said that they got their own insurance, built up a no claims, and got cheap insurance now, their mate 'fronted'...was cheap to start with, but because he didn't have any no claims...was still paying £1400 a year.

Just because other people do it, doesn't make it OK.

Yeah me. My mate did it and still does to my knowledge and he hasnt had a decrease in insurance to this day. I could insure the 320 bmw coupe he owns now for less than he is paying fronting because ive had my own policy since i started driving.

You stupid ****!

See what I've highlighted, your wrong on both accounts and obviously extreamly stupid and arrogant as to how insurance works, god I hope your never involved in an accident with me which involves complications because of your arrogance, as I'd hunt you down!

Yep, was me who said about the £1million mark per person killed.
