just done 140 miles to 3/4 of a tank of petrol?im sure that this aint the normal running standard?can someone tell me if this is right o not?the injector light is coming on so im presuming its somut to do with that?

its a 1.4, its only just started this since the injector light came on, going in for a diag tomoro. it was normal road driving, part from about 5 minutes where i ragged it like it ses to do after i put some injector cleaner in the tank

I've never questioned how much fuel my mule drinks (i figured you don't buy a HGT if you're concerned about economy) so I don't know what I used to get out of a full tank before fast cams, Unichip etc. I remember being put off a de-cat initially, cos of suggestions my fuel consumption really would shoot up, but got one in the end anyway.
They do reckon though, that getting re-mapped can actually improve mpg, and since i've only been half filling the tank since all my engine mods were done, i had been wondering just what rate I was burning fuel at since I now tend to floor it everywhere (I don't need competition - I just do it for the sound
).
So anyway, i gave the mule a full drink (£56) and what I realised is that the first half tank (top half of the dial) actually lasts a lot longer than the bottom half. I actualy got 250 to half way and then another 140 (could perhaps have been another 10-30 mile in the tank). Not bad at all tho I thought.

thats exactly what mine did too!which is what made me so cautious bout the amount of fuel i was using, soon as it got below half way, i have done 50 miles as apose to the 90 on the top quater of a tank!
how many miles should i have got and anyone suggest whats rong wit it?

I think hearing that its the shape of the fuel tank being wider at the top - the float not takin this into account

on my hgt i get 200 miles to the first half, and 100 to the second half. its cos the top of the tank is wider than the bottom...and fiat couldnt be bothered making the float/needle compensate for this

i thought i was seeing things.......i fill my car up and try to make it last the week......i can go like 5 days on the top half....but the bottom half doesnt last into a third day

lol i used to get 170miles to the tank on my 1.4 ! and thats if i drove like a grandad, usually 140-150 on average so count yourself lucky.
i had similar problems with my coupe recently just 200 miles to the tank!! although i do redline it quite often, lol
i sorted the problem with the cxoupe by putting some redex into the petrol which was the injector treatment, this sorted it out, i then used a tank of just petrol and then a tank with the redex carb cleaner, i thought it best to have a tank inbetween just incase i mixed them by mistake.
and you can get 1 shot redex from halfords for 99p which is what i used
ohh and i now get 310 miles from the coupe and still bounce the redline quite often

I did an mpg test last week and got 191 miles out of a tank, i tried grandad-ing it and then thought i cant be arsed with this ill just drive normally, and ended up with 26mpg in the end...pretty chuffed with that!!!

I just did Dundee to Preston, to Blackpool, to Preston, to Birmingham (432 miles) on one tank full.
I also did a tour of the lake district then up to dundee (448 miles) before the fuel light came on.

I worked out the average mpg over both tank fulls to be approx 44-45 mpg
