General 1.4 t-jet 150hp drive shaft??

Hi i recently had a problem with my bravo as it vibrates at 40mph and its been diagnosed with a o/f drive shaft problem. Im looking for a decent second hand shaft but all the ones ive seen my mechanic has told me they dont look like mine even tho they state they are for fiat bravo 1.4 2007 onwards. Apparantly my o/f shaft has a knuckle in the middle were as the ones ive seen have one at each end of the shaft. Im no expert but i was hopefung someone on here could help me with this problem and give me advice with what to do thanks.

Just kicking this thread a little:

I drive a 2008 Fiat Bravo Sport 1.4 t-jet, and this is my 4(!!) Fiat that has problems with the drive shaft. I alway's sold my cars with this problem, but would now like to fix it. I wondering 2 things:

1. Are there more Bravo drivers with bad functioning drive shafts?
2. I have heard that there are no drive shafts for sale, besides the OEM Fiat drive shaft, for sale at the local Fiat dealer. Is that true?

I had problems with inner joints on drive shafts. When accelerating, there was a lot of shaking on steering wheel. I changed 3 sets of alloys and tyres, but no change. Added some grease in joints, and problem was 90% gone. Still have little shaking during acceleration.

On my old Marea 1.8 16v that has 300 000km on the clock, this never happened-joints and shafts were never replaced.
And Mareas joints and shafts are made 3x more durable, in my opinion

This morning I went to the Fiat dealer and a local garage and ask both to look for the problem. Both garages are unable to find the problem, but do think it is the drive shaft. They are now looking at the costs of replacing it. Tomorrow I know more.

But because it is not sure which drive shaft (joints) are giving the problem, they are not sure which drive shaft to replace. I told them the most problems occur with the passenger side drive shaft. The local garage adviced to first replace the passenger side drive shaft, and if the problems don't go away, change the driver side one.

Somebody got tips/advice in this case?

Ok thanks! How did you know which driveshaft (driver/passenger) to change?

Driver, jacked the car up and saw the cv boot split open, and there was a bad knocking coming from that wheel arch

Ah ok. At my car it's a little more difficult. There is no friction, leaks or bad sounds coming from the joints/shafts. It's just the shaking between 70 and 120 km/ph when accelerating.

Yes. Garage says it's because the tripod made a ditch in the joint and is wiggling trough when accelerating.

Yes, but no only on this model. Look at the Croma section, where also a lot of owners have problem with there driving shafts.
My old Stilo had the same problem. Why won't Fiat make stronger shafts? :bang:

A Fiat expert told my this shafts are the same as the Stilo 1.6 16v shafts, but then with a thinner tripod. How stupid can it be, at a car with so much more torque?

Not the best design, have seen uprated ones but they are £1,500, I had a brand new one off fiat for £200, to recondition it would have been £110 but taken a week, and the gearbox repair was £500, for both jobs +labour and vat was £1,120

Thats a lot of money. My car goes to a Fiat expert tomorrow and they will see what they can do.
He told me that he still got some reconditioned parts left (told me not have to completly chanche the drive shaft, but just the joints) and could repair the left side for €150 and the right side for slightly more, because there were no parts in stock.

They first will see which shaft is giving problems, and then, if it is the left one, inmidiatly chanche it. So maybe the problem will be solved tomorrow.

Yes, sad truth. They fitted shafts for aspirated petrol engine. Shafts are way too weak for turbo.

I will try to look and fit shafts that has CV joints on gearbox side instead of tripod shafts. Maybe they fit from jtd 8v.

I just ordered a passangerside drive shaft out of Germany. The left side won't be replaced completly. There will be a new CV joints placed and then hopefully my problems will be solved.

Will be a total of €350 including work and material.

I'm sorry Mike, offcourse I mean a Tripod style joint. I think a CV joint would me much more quality, but I think that won't fit. Did the Marea CV joints really fit at your car??
The local Fiat specialist here got an refurbished Tripod at his place and only needs to order a new bowl, so I think it's more handy.

Yes, if you replace tripod, you should replace bowl also because it could be slightly damaged inside
