We have a 08 Doblo thats just shat its timing chain at 90k and now its been fixed have been advised by the engine builder, guarage that fixed it and the local FIAT dealership to be using 5/30 fully synth, ideally with low SAPS ie Carlube C2, for the required oil change.

Thing is, the Dealership (different to above) originally sold us a load of Selena 5/40 wide range (not low saps etc) and I believe thats whats stated in the 2008 service manual (tho I haven't checked as not foind it yet, just what I've seen online.) Also the Online youtube vid says 5/40.

So who the hell do I believe? I trust the garage I use, they have NEVER let us down unlike MANY before them including the original FIAT dealership.

AAARRRGGGGG!!!!!! Thought people?

Thanks :)

Basically I've spoken to numerous people about this, dealerships and garages etc. Dealership advice is that they no longer put the 40 range oil in these engines anymore as they buy bulk in the most univerally accepted oil, which is now 5/30. So if I was to take this to FIAT dealer tomorrow (which I won't, but thats a different horror story) they would use 5/30. Low SAPS C2 is recommended when you have the engine with DPwhatsit filter and EGR valve, as low smoke = less clogging and longer life of EGR etc all being well. So basically the spec when new was the 40 range oil, but now dealerships (that I spoke to) don't use that oil.

I'm no expert this is just my findings, I've put C2 in today. and found a smashed oil filter cap and broken radiator attachment while I was at it. FIATs really are made of toffee!

you can buy a special tool for these to avoid damage and overtightening
isnt the saps oil low ash?

I have a torque wrench dude and have sorted myself no problem, its the retaining clip for the paper filter that had all the tabs previously smashed off so the filter no longer retained in the cap, waiting for a new cap as is all integral to the cap and have to replace the whole thing.

Awaiting a cap, 6 days for one! and £28 quid :(

Its clear that our vehicle has been treated badly by a previous garage and things have been done with fist and foot, but the amount of damage I've found is beyond belief, all imho because of fiat build quality and the use of cinder toffee snappy plastic

Yes oil is low ash for EGR and DP Filter

The new Tipo handbook says that I should put 0w30 in my 1.3 multijet2 diesel. which contradicts everything in this thread. I have purchased 5w30 already because that's what GSF told me. Which oil should I fit. Tipo 3 years old nearly with 75000miles

The oil specs changed around 2015-2016 to 0 w30 with the euro 6 spec engine
