Tuning 1.2 8v swap

Tuning 1.2 8v swap

Well I took her for an early MOT, and unsurprisingly she failed. Only on silly things like the seat not moving forwards and backwards, no seat belt stalk, bottom arms but the most difficult one is a leaky fuel tank. But I think I've figured out how to solve my handbrake issue, it seems that the drivers side lever is running out of travel but is moving so to solve it I'm going to build up the contact area with a bit of weld. Emissions were a bit high but that's nothing a few greggs won't sort, but all in all didn't fail as badly as I thought even if I had a prick of a tester.

Did the adjuster bar break on the seat?

My Sei has a fuel leak somewhere...

Good idea with the hand brake!

What do you mean greggs? Revs?

I fitted the seats in on the mk1 escort runners and moved them out so now the bar doesn't fit, but it's nothing a bit of welding rod won't fix for a couple days.

I'm tempted to use chemical metal just to get it through its MOT and get a new tank afterwards.

I just hope it works seeing as the n/s was recording 70 and the o/s was 00.

What I mean by greggs is, it's like a bakery but it's a well known chain store thing and every Friday we have a sausage and bacon roll with a laté which isn't bad for £2.

Well the handbrake works a litle too well now, the OS is reading about 200 now and locks, so I now need to do the same to the other side or it'll fail on an imbalance.

Bottom arm bolts came undone nice and easily with no sheared bolts which was suprising, just need to track her again.

Fuel leak is sorted ish by having very little in the tank but I'll still put chemical metal on it and spend money on a tank after I've had a new tattoo.

She'll pass the emissions today one way or another, just been out for a decent drive so the cat is nice and warm

Well she finally has another years ticket, a bit of stressing to get sorted before the 10 days are out.

But she has a new issue now, the injector light comes on every now and again when I try and give some revs when driving and starts coughing and spluttering as if there's no fuel. I'm hoping it's a crank sensor issue as a new injector is £150 if I heard him right, I've put fuel system cleaner in and it hasn't helped.
I can't plug her in to see if any codes are stored because our scanner doesn't want to see it's plugged into anything and the lead for vagcom on the laptop is broken.

Any ideas are welcome

Cheers

Cheers for the reply blu.
At first I thought it was the throttle body icing up because it was only doing it when it was cold. I think it might be the crank sensor because the wiring is a bit dodgy from where it's touching the fan housing, I've got another one on the way and I'm going to re route it round the back of the engine to try and stop it from happening anymore. If I doesn't turn up today, I'm going to pinch it off an old colleagues punto just to try it.

Well this was problem. Runs like a watch again.

Well by the looks of things if all goes to plan, she might be having a new engine this time next year. But starting to source the bits from June, it'll be a treat as such for passing level 3 and becoming an MOT tester, engine change rather than more tattoos.

The plan will be 16v, undecided on 1.2 or 1.4 yet. I've read the guide and I feel confident enough to tackle it, maybe in dads garage with my toolbox and not in work over a weekend. Apart from engine, ecu, code box+key and loom, what else would be needed? Has anyone got a wiring diagram to match the 16v loom to the SPI loom? And has anyone got any tips/tricks for the swap?

I know these questions have been asked several times but it's late, I'm tired, and I'd rather have the info in the thread ready for when it happens.

look in the guides section, its in there..

I used that and a post by ycming from somewhere i found with a search. I used the two sets of wiring instructions to compare against each other. I think from memory the one in the guides talks about wire colours (which matched my car but i have read of people having different colours to the guide) and the post i found by ming had actual D4 pin numbers instead (a more sensible way to record it). Is pretty easy, just a few wires apart from that connector, i think i had to extend about 4 wires total - was a while ago now. But i followed what it said on the forum and it started first time (y)

Well things have been a bit quiet recently, not much has happened to her. Pretty much the only things I've done is the oil and filter and sent the bucket seats off for re upholstering and here's what they look like before they're actually fitted to the seats.

Where are you based?

I've got a full 16v conversion in my garage unused. Decided to stay 899!

Engine, gearbox, manifold, inlet, ECU, wiring loom, fuel pump. Everything you need to put into a sporting.

Well things have been quiet over the past few months mainly down to picking up a second job and point issues going to court due to a cock up on their end.

Anyway, plans have possibly changed rather than go down the 16v route I may have decided to go ITB's. Depending on what i can figure out on the mechanical side and whether my dad can get a way to sort the fuelling out to be sequential rather than splice into the SPI wire on the electrical side and pretty much make my own standalone system for it. How it will work I don't know  but I trust he will find a way to make it work (he's an electrical engineer so he should know what to do).

What I want to know is, apart from a guy on facebook (he's on here somewhere but I don't his name or what to search for to find his posts) has anyone managed it in succession with real world driveabilty? If so, what ITB's did you use and did you have to take out the heater matrix and crap?

I know plenty of people to help with the fabrication of the flanges, it's mainly fiddly bits and pieces that are a bit difficult to figure out with the lack of time I now have.

On a different note, what make and size of tyres are everybody using (without upsetting the speedo too much)? I'm currently running 175/50-14 and I'm thinking 185/50-14, mainly down to the fact that they're cheaper and there's more of a choice in brands.
