My 1.2 Dynamic has oil covering the f/n/s suspension strut. Can I replace the shock absorber inside it like older cars or will the whole leg need changing.Any ideas re reasonably priced suppliers? Thanks,Dave.
I should imagine the whole lot needs to be replaced. You will have to swap over the top mount and the spring.
Either your local motor factors will be able to get a reasonable part in or you can save probably £10-15 by ordering online.
I use google to find the suppliers but alot of people just go to a big retailer like eurocarparts.
The struts just unbolt from the hub (two bolts) and inside the inner wing (one nut). Pull the struts out from under the wing.
You'll have to compress the spring with a couple of spring compressors and then undo the nut, there's usually a hole for an allen key in the centre to stop the rod from spinning.

Then remove the bush/bearing/bumpstop/dust cover and swap them over to the new shocks, line the spring up in the bottom retainer and build back up.
if you are brave/careful you can do it without a spring compressor using the jack and the weight of the car. More of a 'field fix' method and not recommended though as compressors are cheap enough from most places. i think mine came from machine mart.
