Was driving in my Grande Punto today on some typically lousy Irish back roads (boggy area of County Offaly) and didn't notice the pretty abrupt mound/hump up ahead, only managed to slow down to about 50 or 60 km/h and car became slightly airborne going over it. Unpleasant noises upon touch-down, but I think it might have just been some motor oil and a funnel moving around in the boot. First time it has happened to me, although not the worst shock I have given to my springs (this car has taken some extraordinary hardship). Upon inspection, I don't think I can hear, see or feel anything wrong with the suspension. Everything is normal as far as I can tell (thankfully). Has this ever happened to anyone here? Any reason I should have a garage look at the springs? I don't believe the underside of the car made any contact with the tarmac, the GP has ample ground clearance so that's unlikely to ever be a problem.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'd better check that.

Given the state of the roads in this country, I'm sure it happens to people constantly.

I had a similar experience a few years back and took off so hard I really hurt my neck when my head hit the roof of the car. Who knows how high I went afterwards but it was more like 3 or 4 feet in the air! No harm done thankfully.
Just shows that if on unfamiliar roads these things can occur and you need to be prepared. I certainly learned a lesson that day! The only time I have ever damaged suspension in a huge mileage has been contact with road kerbs either at speed or in freak situations at odd angles and only once was the damage more than slight. SO I agree with varescrazy you should be fine. Check for leaks by looking at the ground where the car is parked overnight. If there is no oil on the ground you dont have a lead. If you are very cautious you could ask a garage to raise the car so you or they can look. Again this may well be done FOC if they are looking for a leak and there is none.

That's very extreme! Thankfully mine wasn't nearly that bad. Reminds me of when I was badly rear ended earlier this year, we all got thrown forwards and the Punto needed some serious cosmetic surgery. I have had very similar experiences with kerbs. Traffic islands specifically. The car did take both of the impacts though, despite being at between 10-20km/h. I did break the offside front spring going over a bad speed ramp at 50km/h, also messed up the drop links. Yeah, I might swing by the garage and get them to at least jack it up. I know the lads well so they'd probably be kind to me if there isn't a leak as you said.
