Re: Stupid Stilo Lights

I think you are right about the bigger battery on JTD.

Re: Stupid Stilo Lights

Well what can I say but I did it I did it I did it took me about 30 mins for both sides.
This is how I did it
1 take the top bolt out of the washer bottle
2 remove cover to light
3 take off the spring clip that holds the light cover on
4 remove the cable guide behind the water bottle to give you more room
5 change the bulb and put it all back.
6 remove the top half of the battery cover
7 remove the light cover
8 remove the clip that hold the cover on
9 change bulb
10 put it all back (I found it better to put the cover back on from under the car)
11 go to the first aid kit

Not as bad as I expected but I did end up with a few cuts and grazes
We all say it but why do fiat make it so hard
:slayer: :) :)

Re: Stupid Stilo Lights

Thats a Joke, i bought some super bright Osram ones of ebay and got Fiat Reg Vardy to fit them for £10 in Stockport....Took damn near ages...but i can understand why....but they initially said its only a 30 min job!! Right...

jtd headlight change - don't !

i've read a few posts about changing headlight bulbs, it sounded ok but could take some time to do. so i bought some philips gt150 bulbs and had ago at fitting them.

i removed the battery and pushed the battery case backwards after removing a few nuts and bolts, also undid the the washer bottle and pushed it back. I managed to get into both headlights to change the bulbs by removing the black plastic headlight cover - DO NOT DO THIS - you can't get the cover back on without removing the bumper as the angle to put it on is not there (hard to explain on here without actually seeing it)

so with no headlight covers fitted i look at Ben's gudie :) to removing the bumper as a last resort - bumper removed headlights removed and bulbs replaced, also replaced the fog lightbulbs. i still can't see how you remove the sidelight bulbs even with the headlight in my hand.

after 6hrs of messing around, bulbs are changed and the car is back together, but be warned it's a pain to do!

Ye gods.... is nothing just nice and simple on these cars  Must admit to having had a squint to see how tricky it is.... looks like a complete and utter bar steward

how did you do that?

The back covers just slide back in, those two small clips on the wheel side going in first, and than click in place on the oposite side, really didn’t have any problems there. To change the bulbs I used the same way you did.

tried that but the indicator bulb housing got in the way and not enough room to slide the cover back in place.

Re: Anyone Changed a Headlight Bulb???

Right, ive just changed the nearside main beam with the help of an able bodied assistant.

My God what a job, do all fiat technicians have to be under the age of 15 to put their cars together?! cos there was no chance of getting my fat hands in that space between the battery and the light bulb housing.
Removed the battery and all of the components around, alittle jiggery pokery with the battery housing and done....

I would have done the job faster but the halfords emergency bulb kit i bought for the stilo has....the wrong halogens in it! yippee i thought so had to pop to my car part shop up the road.

Fiddley as F**k:bang:

Re: Anyone Changed a Headlight Bulb???

I'm pretty sure that the handbook describes both how to change the bulbs and what types of bulb to buy.

OK, in an effort to do a little better, I've scanned the relevant pages (pictures attached)

Re: Anyone Changed a Headlight Bulb???

...and one more.

Bulb changing is one of the few jobs that the manufacturers have to make 'possible' (by way of providing instructions and tools) for safety reasons. Sometimes things are a bit marginal (the FIAT Tipo springs to mind, where the cluster has to be unscrewed) but usually it's pretty easy. I remember the access being tight on the Alfa 164 (relays and brackets had to be removed, so they were held on with thumbscrews), and some Uno models need the air filter housing removed.

Re: Anyone Changed a Headlight Bulb???

Go on Alex, take both your headlight dipped bulbs out, let us know how you get on :p

Re: Anyone Changed a Headlight Bulb???

I asked the technicians in our workshop to change all my bulbs for upgraded ones for me after i'd just bought the car...
I popped into the workshop and there was my baby:devil: with no front bumper/crossmember or headlights...
He told me it was the quickest most straightforward way to do it on the 2.4!!!!:(
Absolutely insane... (I thought he was that is!!) until i had a look..
I wanted to change the rear indicator bulbs which i thought would be simple... I need to remove the bloody subwoofer to get to the nearside one...!!!
Any other cars i've owned/worked on have taken seconds... :bang:

Yeah, thats how I think I'd do it on mine; had the bumper and headlights off, only took me 20 mins or so to change the bulbs, so an hour all-told.

Re: Anyone Changed a Headlight Bulb???

The handbook describes how to remove the bulbs from the headlight unit, getting access to it is not mentioned (I wonder why??)

Re: Anyone Changed a Headlight Bulb???

i attempted to change my headlight bulbs recently, got fed up losing knuckle skin so ended up taking it to my local dealer, £63.00 lighter in the pocket but i can now see were im going again, the mechanic said he bloody hated doing that job on stilos, why do they have to make life so difficult!!
