Good Morning all,

Yesterday I fitted a Sony CDX-GT300S Head Unit with the Connect 2 box permitting me to use my 4GB Sony IPod [that's in the Upper Glove Compartment]. One of the "Screwfix Red Box" of Screwdrivers was an excellent fit for "squashing down" the "retaining Clip" part of the ISO Pin to change over 2 pins, thus permitting NO extra wiring at all (y)

Now, my drive slopes at about 1 in 5, so my Stilo is parked up with Handbrake on and left in Reverse Gear. Whilst fitting this unit, I had the ignition switched to ACC - didn't need to, as the 12V continuous supply was used for the Sony, but each time I went to ACC [open window etc] I hear this "electric motor sound", which is continuous. What do you think this could be please, as I was unable to isolate the sound :( Headlamp Levelling ?? Fuel Pump [it's a 1.9 JTD]. Any help appreciated. Thanks for reading this post.

Thank you for your reply. If this is the case, why does it "whirr away" when the vehicle isn't being steered? My first Fiat and I was oblivious to the fact that it had *electric* power steering  - all previous vehicles had power steering, but were hydraulically powered. I'm just off to the car to see whether the steering is "light" with the engine not running. Hydraulic power needs engine on. Thanks again for your response.

Regards,

When you say it happens continuously, does it ever stop? The instrument cluster will make a noise as the stepper motors will be bringing the needles to the 0 position. Failing that, I'm pretty sure it's the PAS motor getting ready.

If the "Whirr" you're talking about sounds like a very fast clicking sound, which goes away after turning off the ignition, then it's the water pump for the engine cooling system kicking in and it's normal for this noise.

The sound, if it was on a petrol engined vehicle, would be just like an electric fuel pump "priming". It *did* stop after about 2 minutes or so and, as the steering remained "heavy" at park [not really surprised] I just won't worry about it any more. Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's really good to have a "proper" music player in the vehicle. Radio + CD [MP3, WMA or Original] AND my IPod - well pleased. (y)

Thanks Again.
