It was a MK1. But what are you saying, MK1 would struggle 'cos its lighter, MK2 would struggle 'cos its heavier? I think you need a kip! ;)

Guy was spanking it, seeing as its so cold out even with a warm motor you can see exhaust as he floored it. Only reason i think he stayed ahead is 'cos his gearing seemed a bit lower, or he was using the torque more, as he was changing gear a bit sooner than me.

kip is the last thing I need, been asleep all day ta ;)

Was saying the mk2 would struggle as its heavier.
mk1 would be quite the goer as its lighter. Its lighter then the Brava
Mind you, the K is quite a smoky car, especially on an i'll maintained one, doesn't need much throttle to get a heap of smoke out the back.
any idea of its age? if it was anything of an 88 - 91 model it could of been the nasty spi model, may of been 95bhp by book but it was a slug compared to the mpi.

The gearing of the rovers gearbox is similar to that of the brava's when doing 70 its at 3500rpm while the brava is at 3350rpm. If he was changing too early it would go quite slug like, the K needs its high end revs, anything below 3000 and it just wont pull at all.

If you would like, I could give a demonstration of a mk1 414 for you, since my dad has one ;) although not with this snow we are strangely getting atm

there is one thing I so miss from my 214 days. thats the brisk getaway at the forth roadbridge tolls. It really would force you into the back of your seat and give you a wake up call and a big grin.

and this is going a bit O/T now aint it ;)

Cheers Stu, So if im ever gonna do some speed testing im going to need it off completely to get a proper result. Being an Abarth i don't feel like there's any lack of power with it on, not like the focus, but im going to give it bit of stick when i get it back from the bodyshop just to see if there's a difference, and i'll do some mpg testing too.

even with the 1.6 ive never noticed any difference in power or throttle responce. But I guess it may not come into play if the car isnt being given any welly.

Good call ;)

Keeping up with a clapped out Rover isn't really anything that special is it?

My Dad used to have a 1.6 Montego, fairly shifted when it was new, but by the time it had 170k on the clock, I was easily beaten by a new 1.1 Fiesta, see what I'm saying

what a bloke, the body of a man, the imagination of a child, right I'm off to the Moon for the day, see you guys later.................................

Re: Stiloboy................................

Why is it that folk make such assumptions, the 414 i played with was puffing steamy smoke out the back, 'cos it was a cold night last night, not 'cos it had a clapped out engine.

IT WAS GOING FOR IT, SO WAS I, I KEPT UP WITH IT! THE END!

Actually Scorg probably lives closer to Diagio than me, i do however live closer to the Crammond distillary.

Stiloboy..............................

I hope you don't mind me asking, but can you package some of that gear up and send me some, I'll pay whatever for it cause I know it's top smoke?

At last.......................................

I had all the diagnostic checks that FIAT Tecchy recommended and my car has been given a clean bill of health, all is as it should be, however, it still returns 19 - 25mpg at best, it's not good is it?

Re: At last.......................................

I get28 out of the abarth (with selespeed)at a average of 27mph(I do a lot of town driving in my job). But I get 32 whendriving to-from work(between 50-80mph depending) So 19-25 is something wrong .Id be worried,ny jag gave me better from a 3ltr.

Pretty much all my driving is town based with some A roads to give it a blow out here and there. I get 18.5 mpg average in my selespeed, how on earth do you manage to get 28 out of yours gaddass ?
I have tried driving economically and have managed around 20mpg at the end of a town driving day so i thought why bother, i'd rather have some fun and drop 1.5mpg average... I'm confused, there seems to be some big variations in what the trip is telling us. Are these things accurate or what ?

Hi Guys I get 55mpg out of the JTD, 1.6 engine has always been very thirsty and is made worse by driving style. As an example of how driver makes such a large difference, I had a customer who could only get 35mpg from a JTD stilo, his receipts and computer matched what he said. I had the car on test for 5 days and got 53mpg not trying at all, this included city driving at rush hour and open road, no motorway stuff although the car was always cruised at 65mph to try and make it as fair as possible. An increase in mpg of 50% due to driver! It was the final reason for buying one, especially as my previous car only got 34mpg, (a vauxhall).

Ive got a average of 27.8 showing now from last week.I drive mainly in auto just switching occasionaly when the box is a bit slow using manual.
Ive got a 20 mile run down a A road at between 50 and 80 with a half dozen overtakes and then drive round housing estates stopping about 20 times and rarely getting out of 3rd gear(about 15-20 miles a day of this)and then the run home at about 60(more traffic).
I put in about 45 quid a week which is the same as I put in the jag.
Im no slouch and hit 90+ at times when the road allows but otherwise keep it below 3k revs. And get 28mpg.

Ive also done a bit of reckoning and at 45 quid with the milage it seems about right at 28mpg.So its not my trip lying,is it yours?
It may just be the fact that my revs are rarely bellow 3,000 :D
OK....i'm making a promise to myself now... I AM going to drive economically for a whole week and see what happens.
