Noticed today when drinving without music on that my clutch pedal makes a loud click at the very last point when being released back to its natural position, it seems to click into a locked final position, doesn't sound like a fault sounds like a noise thats meant to happen.....is it?

Cheers

Had a look round its this plastic piece you can see on the pedal that seems to click when the clutch reaches its finally positiion on release, doesn't seem faulty, just loud click!

Any ideas, have you all got the same plastic part?

Is it a quick easy job to replace?

Also what is it? Doesn't seem to do anything except click!

Wife doesn't want dealership to touch car if they don't have too can it be left to 1 year service or is it urgent, doesn't seem to effect anything.

Had a look with a mirror its about a two inch long white plastic unit in there with a metal ball inside it connected to the clutch rod. Mine seems to click on return on the part in the phot, just doesn't fit snug. Problem is could have another one fitted and it'd be worse looking at the part! Presume the part is about £2 and labour £200! Might leave mine until next March for first service as wife dreads dealer working on car!

Can't see anything actually wrong with the part or function of padal...twincamms let me know what happens with yours...cheers

Guys be carefull you do not renew the wrong part, watch carefully the white plastic part this holds the clutch master cylinder operating rod this will move when pedal pushed but the BLACK plastic part that is rivited to the clutch pedal maybe the part that moves and clicks this part is not a seperate part it comes with the pedal. To renew the clutch pedal you will have to remove the throttle pedal assembly which looks easy but the allen bolts are held by nuts at the back of the pedal box and are a work up to get at, and thats from a dealer tech

Ned when you hold the bit shown in the photo it clicks when releasing the clutch. Is it just a poor fitting part, it doesn't seem to have any major stress on it and my wife doesn't notice the noise when she drives. Presume it won't ever actually do anything except click it all looks quite solid?

Also is this a very common problem on Stilo clutches, I presume most people put up with it as the one in the dealership showroom also did it!

Wife has been searching the web today re. the clicking clutch she has found tons of complaints about the pedal on weird car review sites e.g....."The clutch master cylinder was replaced after about a month but this did not cure the constantly clicking clutch pedal apparently the dealer has had a lot of complaints about the same thing but no one knows how to cure it!! "

These were all 2002 Stilos so they haven't modified it for 2004, obviously the pedal polastic bit just clicks!

Twincamms how did you get on?

The white little tags you see in photo are part of the clutch rod retainer(it keeps the rod engaged onto the back of the pedal) but we have done about 4 pedals now that have been due to the black plastic part moving, the rod has a ball on the end and this sits on a small white disc(like a top half of a flying saucer???)you could try and lift the pedal up and spray grease around it and see what happens. There are no parts that actually break they are just noisey operating

Ned when you say the black plastic part do you mean the pedal itself?

I had a look the silver ball can be seen encased in the white plastic either side...is that what you mean flying saucer?

Also are you saying that if you put up with the noise nothing will actually go wrong it will just click forever?

Funny you should ay about the grease rang dealer today and thats what they suggested, they said it can be changed, but could be worse or better after a few thousand miles...its just the design of the clutch pedal / rod.

What grease should I buy? Spray grease made by who? Thanks a lot.

In the photo of your pedal there is two metal rivots that cross horizontally the pedal they retain the black plastic block within the metalwork of the pedal this is the part that can move, the "saucer" part sits between the rod and this black block, The grease we us is supplied by Wurth products and seems to work 80% of the time. I hope this helps,as i`ve now got to renew a clutch pedal that the customer is shouting at him every time he uses the pedal even after I stopped the noise but lubricating the slave cylinder actuating rod. I just love the aftersales dept!!

I had my clutch pedal done yesterday, the dealership were polite and helpful as usual, and the clutch has never felt so good, it's tight, smooth, no squeaks or clicks, I recommend it, get your dealers to sort it out, it works, now let's hope it lasts! :D

twincamms did they change anything? I followed Ned's advice and squirted quite a bit of white grease all around black box and so far the click has gone...fingers crossed!

Ned thats what I reckon too as the way to solve!

Its only a creak may as well put up with and see if it improves/gets worse.

That black box that holds the white unit in only has a top bottom and left side, why no 4th side?

Well after getting the work done 2 months ago here, the problems back, creaking when bringing up the clutch, also the cluck although you cant hear it, you can feel it once the peddle reaches the top and you have the slack

Scorg mine creaks in the first cm of travel on the way down and again over the same part on the way up.

I know its only a creak, but it shouldn't happen on a new clutch surely?

I have checked mine and greased mine all over and it does just seem to be the workings of it that creak, I reckon most Stilo clutches must be like this as there seems alot of parts behind the pedal to creak, squeek etc!

Just done the round trip to Scotland Stilo did great, still got the creaking clutch :-

It is on the first inch of depressing and on that same last inch when it comes back up.

Popped into a Fiat dealer between Falkirk & Stirling, not sure what dealership, they had a quick look and said 'its just the workings behind the pedal' they had a point when I agreed you do have to not have the stereo on and be listening for it & press it down slowly to hear it! But said one option would be to change the workings behind the pedal as its easy to get done under warranty but they said it could creak more or make a different noise once done!

this is an intersting thread and i have a few comments, the white bush is dead easy too replace(thaks me about 10 mins) however this is not usually the cause of the creak.
if you remove the cover above the pedals and follow the clutch pedal right up too the top you will see the clutch return spring mechanism. one end of it is held too the pedal by a rod and clip and the other end is a plastic fork thats wedged into a plastic grove on the back of the pedal box. the creak is caused by a lack of grease on the end of the fork, a quick remove and grease usually clears it up.

Hornetuk, My own Stilo 1.6 makes a noise from the pedal area on lifting the pedal and as i worked at a dealer i have renewed slave cylinder and put some extra lub inside the rubber bellows then fitted it, this cured it for a couple of weeks but it comes back on yes i`ve also had the pedals out stripped and lubed up (well we were quiet with no work) but the wife has not complained of the noise so thats it leave it and put up with it!
