Hi all, Been driving my Abarth in manual a lot lately but decided to put it in auto yesterday and it's not changing up (changes down), Also noticed there is no noise from the engine bay when i open the drivers door (used to get a sort of buzzing), It drives ok still in manual mode, Is there a simple fix for this or is it hundreds of pounds!:bang:

Thanks for any help

Geoff

It sounds like the brake light switch is stuck on, only being able to change down is a classic symptom as the auto-mode assumes you're slowing. Lift up the boot lid and see if your high level brake light is stuck on when you press the pedal.

As for the pump noise...if you're able to change gears at all then there must be enough hydraulic pressure in the system to change up as well as down. It sounds like you need to keep an eye on this but I don't think it primes everytime you open the door, only if there's not enough pressure in the system.

Thanks for that Greggors, I'll check the Brake lights/switch & give all the wires etc a bit of a wobble tomorrow, When i open the door 1st thing in the morning i'll listen for the noise!, I thought there must be pressure as it still works in manual mode, Where is the switch by the way, Is it under the brake pedal?.

Thanks

Have a look in the guides section matey - I'm pretty sure this is covered really well with good descriptions (y)

With a bit of luck, it's just the brake sensor and you don't have any issues with the pump... apparently it's quite expensive to get fixed (n)

Just come back from my car and all 3 brake lights are on, When i pull up the brake pedal they go out but as soon as i let go they are back on!, No priming noise from the hydraulics thou which is worrying, Still goes in gear and drives thou could this have something to do with the brake switch??, Or is it running on the pressure thats in there and when it drops it will finally not go into gear?, How much roughly is a switch and fiat fitting it as i can't do it myself.

cheers

Geoff

Brake light switch is common - it is just under the brake pedal, and you can either have a go at adjusting it yourself, or get a new one; doubt they cost much.

I bodged mine in the end, with one or two sticky pads  just raised it enough for the lights to be off when not depressed.

All sorted now, Just come back from local dealer, Took them 20 mins, No parts needed just adjusting & no charge, What lovely people!(y)

Thanks everyone

Geoff
