i saw this in my local salvage yard last week. its done 58000 miles, is catagory D recorded, has a full fiat service history, and when i saw it, the car only needed the bumper (few odd dents on bonnet). the lights are there(on the driver and passenger seats).

Just spoken to the recovery company. The driver can't remember putting anything in the car, so no idea where the wheel and bearing part and brake parts were picked up from. :(

dad has just phoned, well he spoke to my mum and the mechanic next door to him had just done a bearing on a fiat, he has examined the parts and he thinks the part had a crack on it when it was fitted, but the fitter wouldnt be able to see this, i dont know anything more yet, as it was my mum that passed on the info and as H can tell you she isnt the best for passing on stuff like this as she knows nothing about cars.

well this is it steve, things are still unclear yet to what happened, but like everyone has said, something has caused the wheel to come off cos it shouldnt do that in an accident!

i have spoken to a guy in essex, powerfiat, who is a coupe specialist. He said it is going to be a big fight with the manufacturer, and said he would be surprised if i get anywhere at all, but if it is the part that failed, how can they get away with selling a part that nearly cost me my life? dont they inspect them before they are distributed

Once you have had a chance to get it inspected, then maybe the Health & Safety Agency would be interested in it.

Worth a try.

wheres the big washer that goes behind the nut?

edit i see it now it dont look big enough, is it the rite one?

my brothers girlfriends dad (phew) looked at this at weekend. he used to work for the RAC in the management dept but now retired but has inspected vehicles before.

he said the housing around the bearing had fallen apart, he suggested getting in touch with a no win no fee company and start proceedings, i am not sure if i am ready fot this yet.

Bit of a sobering thought that this day last week i had been through all that :(

Plus if there is a major fault with the parts then you could save somebody else going through the same thing. There may be a batch of faulty units which need to be recalled.

Plus if it was the bearing then you should get compensation for it as you have lost your car and you were injured. It's probably unlikely you would have to do anything because they are usually settled out of court between solicitors.

thanks guys, well went to the docs this morning and he said he was giving me a sick note foe three weeks, and then i have to come back to be reacessed as he thinks that might be too early, so will give me plenty of time to try and get things sorted.

Only thing is, work wont give me sick pay so this is another thing i am worrying about, cos i cant afford to be off work
