was wondering if anyone can help.the pre-tensioners in seat belts decided to go off randomly so replaced with new(er) ones from a scrap yard. now the air bag light is on and have been to three different garages(including fiat)to get it switched off with a diagnostic check but they all say that their machine cannot communicate with the vehicle.
Unfortunately, they cannot tell me what the problem may be either, and i'm not keen to just hand over the keys while they look for something they don't know about til they find it while i get billed by the hour.Has anyone got any idea as to why this would happen or has a possible solution for this problem? any help would be much appreciated,as i have 21 days to sort it out before the retest...

SEEN THIS IN THE PAST, TRY TELLING THE COMPUTER IT IS ON A "PEUGEOT EXPERT" THAT USUALY DOES THE TRICK (y)

thanks mate, but since spoken to mechanic and he tried that already.it reads the engine diagnostic ok, but doesn't recognise the air bag system at all.

so, got to the bottom of the problem.the air bag control unit and most of the wiring is stored in a recessed box under the middle seat.
as this is the lowest point of the van,any water that might be in the van from,oh i don't know,a window cleaning water tank, gathers in this recess and has been sitting there like a little swimming pool for a couple of years now.
This has completely rotted the control box and wires but not set off any fuses to let me know theres a problem as the air bags run off a unique circuit.
The problem could be solved i guess if the cover to this recess is sealed with silicon or something similar, so if you use water around your van, i suggest you check this box is sealed and save yourself days of mechanics and dealers scratching their heads and telling you how much its gonna cost to solve a problem they don't know the answer to!

Pull the warning bulb out the dash? Not perfect but it might get you through the test...mine does! :O)

thanks andycabs, that seems like the only route to go down now, along with trying to get my money back from fiat on the control unit that doesn't seem to be programmed right for my van
