My wife has a 2012 Punto easy 1.2. She has just drove it home from work and has told me the climate control has stopped working. I've had a look and have also noticed the mileage is flashing constantly and the blue and me isn't working.ive checked all the fuses and everything seems to be fine there. The car was fine this morning driving to work. I've took it out for a run and it appears to be running fine. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
Chris

Hi,
You have a CAN communications bus failure. This could be transient and just needs resetting (called a proxi alignment) or there could be a fault (module or connection)/ Either way the car needs connecting to a dignostic computer. This is either a main dealer job or DIY with Multiecuscan software and an interface. Generic code readers and most universal garage software won't do it, it needs to be Fiat specific.
If you are near Cambridge I could do it for you.

Thanks for the info Robert unfortunately I'm up in the north east but I think there's an independent Fiat specialist near me. We've had this car from nearly new and it has been plagued by problems such as power steering various electrical problems broken coil springs not starting on a morning and the car has just reached 30000 miles!

New battery time and a check of the alternator.

Spins over fine coughs and farts then cuts out. Then takes ages to start usually the power steering doesn't work when it eventually does start but this is rectified by switching off and restarting. It really is a heap of cheap and nasty junk.

how frustrating..,
TBH it sounds like a typical GP power supply issue,:(https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto/318839-electrical-gremlin-thread.html

could well be a cruddy main earth connection:eek:

have you had it from new..,
these thing are often found to be where "work" has been done to to add ICE / etc and cocks - up the wiring integrity:bang:

Thanks for the reply. It was less than a year old when we got it and is totally standard. It's a shame because the car is really well specced and seemed very good value for money compared to other small cars. It's just frustrating how many problems we've had with it for a low mileage car.

My friend who has the Supersport had this issue with the power steering. Turned out to be the alternator. Puntos I find are very hit and miss! I've had one terrible one but two really good ones!
